    Agree.

We're a club that's in a better condition than when he arrived too. Much of that change is down to his professionalism, leadership and drive as well as his bloody good abilities with a football.

Not sure Hignett was ever a midfielder more of a false 9 or a number 10.

I remember redfearn excitedly holding up his mid division 1 Manchester City shirt in January 1997 with pound signs in his eyes leaving us wondering if we'd have been promoted if he'd stayed too. Exactly the same.

You're like a set of battered house wives "he only left us cos he cares about us!!"

I'd put him in my top 10 from '74 onwards (in no order):

    McCarthy
    Glavin
    Futcher
    Redfearn
    DeZeuw
    Hourihane
    Hignett
    Banks
    Shipperley
    Ward

    BAD

Best choices from 70's would be

    Brian Joicey
    Mick Butler
    Bobby Doyle
    Alan Little

couldn't put any of them in the top 10 though...

Without a doubt. He is to this decade what Glavin, Redfearn and Hignett were to the 80s, 90s and noughties. A model pro to the very end. This forum has threads of me being ridiculed a few weeks after his league debut still in August 2014 when I was calling already our best midfielder since Hignett. Two and a half years later and he's second to only Redders in my lifetime. Losing him has been more **** than any sale I can remember. OTT yeah :D

Not for me, Glavin was different class ,Redfearn got us to the Premiership and didn't look out of place despite the relegation , Higgy was better as well. Hourihane for me is a great player but not in the same 'hero' class as the three mentioned , if he had stayed and a Championship play-off or promotion to Premiership on his Barnsley CV then maybe . The catalyst to last years promotion and Cup win was Hammill , lets not forget that.

Absolutely. Best player I can remember for us, saw Redfearn but was too young to remember him.

Handled his move respectfully and with head held high scoring a peach in his final game. A side from smashing the stats for assist, he was a regular goal scorer, Captained us to promotion and lead out twice to victory at Wembley.
