IF we get promoted? That wasn't even touching my 'goal' list for this season. I'd be more than happy with mid-table.
cloud cuckoo land? McCarthey is putting across his opinion thats all and in part it was Leeds failure for the reason we stayed up, there failure to win games that people expected them to win. How many weeks did both teams lose in the same week, if they had won there second to last game it would have gone to the wire but they failed to do so. I'm not taking anything away from SD or the players but I still have questions over SD as a manager because he has not totally convinced me yet, and others! talks of new contracts becasue we have had a decent start is cloud cuckoo, as is promotion this season, nothing wrong with hoping for this but realistically consoldiation/survival is the target.
No you aren't the only one. My first reaction to his appointment, was one of disappointment, another cheap option, was my opinion at the time. However, I was prepared to give him a chance and initially was quite impressed. He lost me again with his handling of the situation with Anthony Kay and his attitude towards the likes of Robert Atkinson, Neil Austin and other home grown youngsters, allied to his obsession with Nyatanga, who in my opinion is no better than any of the three mentioned. Before anyone starts talking about the mistakes that Kay made on some occasions, have a good look at where our goals against are coming from now. His tactical awareness was somewhat dodgy, no better than Ritchie in my opinion, and hasn't improved a great deal up to now. Great store has been set on how he is building his own team, with 14 new signings in the summer. How many of them have really shown any consistent success? How many of them do you think will be regulars by the end of the season? How many more signings do you think he will be trying to make in January, to cover for the inadequacies of his summer signings? Do we really have people on the bench now, who can make a difference, or change a game? There is still a long way to go this season and no one will be happier than me, if he does "manage" to achieve a mid table spot, or even slightly below that but I am not confident that he will.
RE: Well said but You don't have to tell me that, just look at the response from **** Talk, sorry, Shy Talk.
Was it Hull's failure too As I seem to remember we also finished above them. And Southend. And Luton.
RE: Where are all these players I would have kept a few and in all honesty are the strikers that much better than last season? Odejayi scored less in league one than Richards did and say what you like about Richards but as a target man from what I have seen he was much better at holding the ball up than Odejayi but Odejayi has much more potential so I would have got shut of Richards anyways. Hayes was a very good footballer maybe not a striker but I always thought he had superb footballing ability and could play he is not a player though to chase and bash defenders which seems to be more our style under SD rather than playing it on the deck. Kay should have stayed I thought he played really well last season but for whatever reason he left.
Am not saying we only stayed up becasue of leeds failure to win but more of the opinion that no one expected them to do so badly but because they did it helped our cause, everyone expected, Southend, Hull, and luton to struggle especially once luton sold their best players. I'm not taking anything away from the players or staff we got more points end off and deserved to stay up. But that was last season and even though we have had a decent start it is still only 12 games and to talk of new contracts is stupid and with the football we have played under SD and apart from the Bristol City match we have not won convincingly, Burnley were btter than us, Cardiff were better than us (who are struggling), Scnuthorpe were better than us for large parts, Coventry gave us a footballing lesson BUT as long as we stay up then I think SD will have done a superb job becasue consoldiation is the key this season!
Yes Just that they failed more than we did, we failed more than most other clubs. Sunderland, Birmingham and Derby were promoted because they didn't fail quite as much as anyone else.
I agree that he hasn't done enough to earn a contract yet and think it was the wrong decision to go public on it.
He's doing alreet at the moment and has exceeded expectations thus far (apart from that complete ****** at Hull)
Bench players Didn't Devaney score the winner at Southampton, then set up another sub in Christensen for the equaliser at Charlton?
RE: Yes Thats exactly what I am saying! Start of the season you would look at the league and pick 5 or 6 clubs you think will struggle and then if another one who know one thought would struggle does (and nobody thought Leeds would), does that not help our cause to stay up as it adds a another club into the equation, it certainley increase your chances of survival????? So their failure is our gain, maybe I have not put it across brilliantly but surely that makes sense?
RE: Where are all these players The players you mention to keep didn't do anything to warrant staying at the club. Richards was involved in the sheffield taxi incident and was part of the drinking culture, Hayes had a pop at the club when he went out on loan, and Kay was forever being disciplined. And none of them had a great season on the pitch. Can't blame a new manager for wanting rid. And the replacements are better. We look a far more competitive team this season. We have the occasional off day but on the whole we look like a Championship side.
