He has decent movement off the ball (I.e dragging players out of position) and is a very good first time finisher. The problem is that he doesn’t seem to be getting many of those chances at the minute.
I agree , but as of now no one else is banging in the goals either. And at least he has a 100% record penalty wise.
He's not captain material. He should count himself lucky to be on the team sheet.he offers nothing positive whatsoever
Said this several times last season and got shot down on here. Same responses - 'look at the work he does', 'look at the running he does' etc, every single time. Problem is, he didn't. He fell over a lot. He complained a lot. Sulks a lot. He found that his feet were glued to the turf. A lot. His head was one of the first to drop. He didn't lead - either as a captain or 'from the front' as our main striker. He never rallies, bawls out colleagues, comforts others. The captaincy has been the worst thing to happen to him. We know what he's capable of and I simply do not believe that's gone forever. High on Poya's to-do list would be a sit-down with Woodrow and a good chat. Make him club captain if you like, but not team captain. It's killed him. Hand the armband to Helik or Collins (christ, I wish Solly was still with us....) and let Cauley concentrate on what he's good at.
Iseka, Cole or Morris would have more goals than him if they'd played the same minutes. Cauley has got a fantastic reputation and for me we need to cash in on it while we still can.
All of this makes me realise just how clever Ishmael was last season when he straight away realised just how poor we were as individuals and basically got us playing anti football very successfully and manipulating the five sub rule to take us to the brink of promotion. This season kind of proves all that in spades.
His contribution in past seasons isnt up for discussion, but if we are judging him on current performances then he's nowhere near. Him and frieser were probably the worst combination of a strike force in the whole championship today.
That would make sense if he wasn’t getting crucified at WBA for playing the same football. He was a brilliant manager for us. But he didn’t come and and create a style based on who we had - that’s just his style for achieving success.
Can we leave Helik alone and get him captaining his defence first? Interesting when we comment on Woodrow’s vocal role but Moon does more communicating than Helik. We’re severely lacking an obvious Captain, but then a captain doesn’t need an armband and Woodrow suits the role more than others.
An opinion. Another opinion is the one I have that Helik would thrive as captain of that team. I think it would raise him and his game to the levels we all expected him to hit. Just an opinion.
Fair opinion. But not much evidence to support it based on what we see during 90 minutes? If we’re saying we need a vocal, ranty, comforting, leader of a player it’s slim pickings and it isn’t Helik. Doesn’t mean he wouldn’t step up. But it’s a leap based on what we see. He just happens to be, or feels to be, our most experienced player right now due to his International appearances.
He did. But you said he walked in and realised we had to play a certain style because we were limited. That’s just how he approaches winning football as he’s got far better players at WBA and has maintained the ‘Barnsley Way’
Ano wba fans aren’t happy but i still think they play a much better version of vertical football than we did last season because they have more technically better players and i would still expect them to finish in the top six. My problem is that our players are out of there depth playing this more so called passing game and it’s taking us down unless this new guy can perform another miracle.
Having watched them a few times, because they’ve changed their name to West Bromwich Friday Night Albion, they marginally play a bit more football than us but it’s a very very similar style. But they don’t need to because they have far better players. It could be Val’s undoing as they won’t let that gap from 2nd to WBA keep increasing with what many consider a poor brand of football. Not like he’s building something when expectations are high. Watching Fulham play every week must be an absolute pleasure, as a comparison
A good player well out of form as are many others. Could we afford someone who could score 50 odd goals in 3 seasons as an upgrade I’m guessing not. Should we be looking to give him a rest now that Morris is fit I’d say probably yes but if we can’t work out how to get him back In form we will go down.
Yeah i agree the pressure is going to rise considerably on big Val if the gap between top two gets much bigger but that’s his problem. Regarding us pal I just hope this new gaffer can galvanise us into a proper team who will run through brick walls for him starting this Wednesday before it’s too late.
