Have the laws been changed recently? I had no idea you could be offside from a backwards pass. Edit. Right, got it. He was running from behind (in front of) the player who played the ball. Still quite odd. In any case at that stage in the game the ball should just have been whipped into the box.
Was always a big ask to get something there, with Mowatt out. Ismael does need to consider the system we play against the top sides, at least in one of the games this month.
Sorry, refuse to believe that. Don't care what the internet says. There's a million and one goals that need to be ruled out through history if that was the case. Man gets to by line, crosses ball backwards to onrushing striker who is ten yards in front of any other opposing defender (other than the keeper) and scores. Always, always, always, given. Because the ball went backwards. Always has been given and always will be because you can't be offside if the ball goes backwards.
A game I'd chalked as an away defeat when the fixtures came out. Added bonus we didn't get hammered. I can hold my head up when I go to work on Monday. Oh I'm working from home!
It's not the internet, it's the FA rules Jay. You are almost always right, but you're not right in this instance.
Yes you can - its just really unusual. You cant be offside if you are behind the ball so its rare for someone to be offside for a backwards pass but its possible. No where in rule 11 does it refer to the direction of the ball - its all down to position of ball and players https://www.thefa.com/football-rule... player is in an,and the second-last opponent
This. I was reading the thread comparing this to Wilson’s promotion team. This team has some good individuals but is miles behind in terms of being a footballing side.
it’s very close with 23. That’s if the screen shot shows the exact time the ball is rolled back. Didn’t he trap it for a few seconds?
By the time he releases the ball from the back heel I’ll bet there’s 4 of them in the 6 yard box that are keeping him onside.
Glad you said that. I thought I was going mad, or not understanding a rule. Commentators didn’t seem to see much wrong. It was a ludicrous decision !
