My view too. He was hoping McAtee would go to ground and took advantage when he did. There’s a great angle from behind the incident. Watch the player knock the ball to the right but move to the left when McAtee slides in. There’s no doubt he was playing for the penalty, otherwise he would have followed the ball. But from the view the ref had and even from the view the linesman would have had there was no way the penalty wasn’t going to be given. Even with VAR it would have been given, unless the FA started using wily ex-pros to work as the VAR assistant, as they would know when a player has dived and when he hasn’t. All the useless refs who are in the VAR box are interested in is whether there’s ’contact’. It doesn’t matter to them who initiated the contact, because they seem incapable to spotting it.
That’s a true stat but it doesn’t give the full picture. BFC under Collins have been behind in more league one games than any other manager in recent memory, back to prior to Andy Ritchie at least. He’s had a lot more opportunities to gain points from behind. If we hadn’t got points from losing positions we’d be near the bottom four. Or in it. Gaining points from behind, and substitutes having goal involvements, aren’t necessarily the indicators of strong head coaching as some would make out. I’d love to see as many stats posted (and even available) of how many games we have gone behind in, and how many goals we have conceded rather than scored after substitutions made.
It's a pen no matter how you try say otherwise. He gets none of the ball but makes contact with the player. It's not even debateable.
