Difficult to get serviced & didnt go outta business for being reliable was British manufacturing at its best. Couldnt even be rescued by BMW german engineering. BTW is it black?
RE: Difficult to get serviced & didnt go outta business for being reliable LOL - white? Doesnt really matter its a Rover - does it come with the obligatory flat cap?
Not exciting but ... .. it will be cheap compared to rivals and if you're not botheredby the fat cap, tartan rug image then no problem.
The K series petrol engine used by Rover is quiet and economical but had a reputation for blowing head gaskets so check the expansion tank to make sure it's topped up properly with coolant and take off the oil filler cap - if its got a mayonnaise-type gunge in there walk away (a sign of water in the oil). Check service history and get a warranty but any good garage will service it no problem and parts are plentiful in factors and on t'net.
We've got a 1.4 16V which I do 90 miles a day in down the M4 to work and back, it's 10 years old and don't miss a beat (but it had a new head gasket last year)
Like I say, not trendy but good value

Cylinder head gasket, and cylinder head warpage are two pretty common faults with the Rover 25's. So if I was you I'd stay well clear. Go Japanese.
