I agree with you Jay and think he'll be a big loss and impossible to replace with the relatively paltry money we're likely to get for him. We'll certainly miss him when he's gone. We won't be able to sign a striker as good as him unless we're lucky with an up and coming one, as strikers as good as him won't want to play at the level we'll be playing or for the money we'll be offering. I just don't get the rose tinted view people have of Neil Shipperly though. I mean, he was good, but not that good. He certainly wouldn't get anywhere near the top ten strikers I've seen down at Oakwell. And whilst some of the players you mentioned never got 15 goals in a season, there are good reasons a couple of them didn't. Geddis had 10 in 14 when we sold him, so was shaping up for a 30+ goal season, whereas Ward had 12 in 17 the season we sold him. I get your point though.
It's amazing how people can actually give the club a hard time when absolutely nothing negative has actually happened.
There are players who have scored more than O'Grady, but I was comparing him to past players who are fondly remembered, but didn't manage as many goals in a season as O'Grady, or bettered him only once when playing for the club a number of years.
Just don't get the negitivity towards him. One of the few bright spots in the horror show of last season. I can only think people are expecting him to leave so are prepping themselves for the blow by playing down his importance to us.
some people are just only happy when they're moaning. i genuinely don't understand why some of our fans are actually our fans, when all they seem to do is criticise the club and players. but hey.
You`re beginning to moan a lot abart the moaners nar, just informing you how it looks from over here.
So they're above criticism? I wonder if people who constantly sit on the fence get splinters in their bum?
If they go to game moan all they want, thing thing that pisses me off is when we take 250 away fans and a thousand come on here moaning when they ant a clue
Yes, No or is that No, yes, its all Jim Iley`s fault anyway everyone knows that except for the odd man on a galloping hoss that may miss it. Or summat.
Didnt Ward have 15 before January the season we sold him? Not that I am disagreeing with you, I just don't think he's the be all and end all. If we get offered close to a million I would be happy to see him go, because I think we can build more of a team with the dosh. I do however agree that he's one of the better strikers we have had over the last 10 years, but I think that is more down to the fact that we have bought some utter bilge over that period rather than COG being a great player.
He had 15 goals by the end of November, but 3 were in the league cup, I was only counting league goals. Ashley Ward was in a different league altogether, but we bought him from a Premier League club to play in the Premier League. He was brilliant, I've no doubt that he would have gone on to score many, many more, had we kept him, but we didn't and he never managed as many league goals in a season as O'Grady. O'Grady isn't Ashley Ward, but we're not playing in the Prem or trying to get promoted to it, we haven't £millions to spare and I don't think we'll be able to replace O'Grady with better. We might, Wilson signed Charlie Austin for Swindon from non-league, we might find another one of those, but as we've been pretty much working without a scouting network these last few years and are only just making moves to re-start it, I'm not hopeful we'll drop so lucky this summer. We'll be taking our pick from those that are touted around by agents, those that seem to be constantly changing clubs, and we've seen from the last 8 years that more often than not we end up with a boat load of *****, unmotivated, only here for the money, *****.
I do rate him. But I wouldn't be upset if we got a decent amount for him. That's not because of his goals output, since coming to us his goal contribution has been impressive. But I feel our reliance on the left channel, Kennedy ball to COG has been detrimental to our overall play and I really want to see that sacred cow sacrificed. Similar to the England style when Crouch was selected. And as a result, we've been easy to play against and players under pressure or low on confidence have fallen into giving it Kennedy to play the channel ball. In an ideal world, we'd get rid of Kennedy, place the emphasis on getting a much more dynamic midfield who can pass and keep the ball and retain O'Grady who plays more central allowing wingers to use pace out wide and get balls to him to attack (a la QPR). But I think the outcome is more likely to see O'Grady leave for funds to invest.
I don't disagree on that front, the key to it all, is how Wilson spends the money, I just wished that Flicker didnt spend all the Stones money, like he did and Wilsod had it to spend instead, but we are where we are. I'll agree with you again, I'm not saying we should sell O'Grady, I just think if we get offered good money, and £1m is good money, then I'd let him go. We could buy 2 decent laikers for that, and have money left over for some new TVs to pacify the BBS, we might even be able to take the admiral signs down from the East Stand for Supertyke.
Looking at the ***** they've just signed he'd be an improvement that for sure cardiff sign Austrian midfielder Guido Burgstaller and Javi Guerra Cardiff City have signed 25-year-old Austrian international midfielder Guido Burgstaller from Rapid Vienna. "I've followed Cardiff in the Premier League last season and I'm very proud and honoured to be given the chance to wear the Cardiff City jersey - I'm a big admirer of the passion of the fans." Cardiff confirmed striker Javi Guerra's arrival from Real Valladolid earlier this week, but veteran front-man Craig Bellamy has retired. Guerra, who has played in Spain for all of his career until his move to Wales, has completed a medical but will officially join the club on 1 July. The Bluebirds will be playing in the Championship in the 2014-15 season after being relegated from the Premier League after just one season.
