exactly my point And you can harp on abart hands tied and all that ***** but the fact remains the only two players we did manage to bring in pre season were little to do with your mate AR.
RE: How many points behing us were they when we sacked Ritchie Can you clarify for me then becasue I'm a little unclear on this.
Andy Ritchie refused to spend ANY money at all on the squad ?
Or did he not want to bring in the players that the budget he was working with would allow ?
Because there is a difference.
For the record I hope Davey turns out to be a success.

Take your pick: 9 unproven kids / lower league kids or 4 decent championship players. Wage. Cap. Witplanstogodownart.
This is my bugbear with all this. Add together the wages and fees associated with all the players brought in since Ritchie went, and I'd guess that you could have brought in 3 quality players for that amount.
And I wonder why we got those two? Do you think they were under Gord's therteh six pence wage cap? Championship standard players. Just that. We've tried to do a Crewe (stay up several seasons with zero budget) ... but without the genius Manager or common sense board in place. Not "harping on" about "hands tied" at all. These were factual events - a bit like the "fact" you stated regarding the two players ... although your view is so skewed that you can only accept one side of the equation. Good luck with that.
wouldnt sign who would not sign? why? who says? wheres your proof to support the negative case you continually state? Did AR ever say the board refused him the finances?
RE: How many points behing us were they when we sacked Ritchie There is a difference correct but we dont know which version is true or not. However we did get the same old excuses ie "been on phone all week with no success" compared to the players we have brought in recently. It also didnt help that AR was in Canada for 3/4 weeks while we were trying to improve the squad. We signed McIndoe and Togwell and he was happy to go with that team.
I accept what I see The two players in question McIndoe - MOTM in most games he played for us. Togwell - most on here accept he's our best central midfield option other than Howard
Wouldn't / couldn't. Same animal in this case. I think you'll be quite shocked when a few of the players Andy wanted finally become public knowledge. One in particular. Andy never said they refused the finances. He targetted players - they couldn't sign them ... mainly due to wage demands. Although, if you want to believe your own hype, Andy wanted to sign no players at all & was happy with the squad. Kinell fire.
RE: How many points behing us were they when we sacked Ritchie So we can't really say then definitively that he refused full stop to bring players in can we ?
Aye well, until Ritchie changes his mind and decides to speak I suppose we've just what's been said so far to go on.

Then you must also accept: That the 9 players brought in by Davey have been *****. Unless you've had your eyes shut, which I couldn't blame you for. Championship standard players. Just. That.
Where's your proof they weren't anything to do with him? You must have had a brilliant summer holiday then? Not really! I didn’t have a lot of time off. I had 3 weeks really, went to Canada, went to visit relatives over there had a great time and just had a few days over in Spain. The majority of the time the old mobile phone was flapped to my ear trying to sort things out for the coming season.
Quote from Interviewwith Ritchie on Barnsley-mad.

As I've said numerous times before, Rick H said they were trying to bring in experience but found it difficult under Shepherds wage structure. Wage structure, that's the wages we pay to each player, not the total wage bill.
RE: Take your pick: To be fair some have not been great but we cant put Richie Jones, Nyatanga in that bracket yet as we havent seen them play.
Correct. I think Lewin might be our best signing of the season. He's actually played football at this level before ... he's a "championship standard" player. Compare that to Eckersley, Mattis, McCann, Kyel Reid et al. I'll make it more simple for you by putting it in question form: If a lower league player costs £2k per week, but a championship player costs £4k per week - would you rather have 8 lower league players or 4 championship players for the same cost?
RE: Correct. Ritchie Jones looks a good player as well though and Man U have big hopes for him. I would rather have the 4 players at 4k per week however we dont know that 4k per week is the going rate do we? It could be more than that and therefore out side our price range. Just summising. PS - I still think we will stay up.
I bet if you went round Gordon's house there would be 8 half-decent family cars in the drive, but for the money they cost you could have had a Ferrari, a nice reliable Merc, and a Porsche. But hey - who wants only 3 cars when you can have 8 for the same money, and they'll be cheaper to run obviously. Tsk.
I'm concerned for my sanity now cos I find I'm agreeing wi everything you & TFP are saying on this subject. Best ask Mr Ali for an assessment toneet
He would have signed ONLY players who would have strengthened the squad. Numerous quotes of 'The available players are no better than what we have'. Which imho only is proving to be true
