He turned down a seven figure sum, but he hasn't turned down the fight.

I would imagine the last fight was worth well over £7/£8 million, and Froch probably got the majority of that whilst George got a lot less. The rematch is the biggest fight in Britain, and George will want paying fairly for it.

I'm obviously just speculating mind, but he hasn't turned down the fight, just the offer put forward.

Groves is the challenger and needs to remember that. Once he's champion he can start calling the shots and taking the big purse. If he's that confident of winning he is only 1 fight from that position. A 7 figure sum means upwards of a million he has turned down.

Just because you're confident of winning the fight doesn't mean you shouldn't get paid for it? What if he was to suffer an injury in the this fight or the fight after and his career ended?

If I was in Groves' position I would be looking for upwards of £2.5 million, which by my completely non educated guess would be a 75/25 split in Froch's favour, which is probably still less than he should be getting.

Fury vs. Haye was netting both fighters £5 million each, and this fight will bring in just as many ticket sales and commercials.

Funny though. A few posts further up it was Froch who had apparently turned it down etc. Now it's proven it's Groves saying no, it's down to money. I suppose it depends on whatever suits your own argument.

Personally, I think George battered Carl for a lot of the original bout but he couldn't put him away. No shame in that. But then Froch took over and was hurting him a lot and the ref deemed it necessary to halt it.
I'd love to see a rematch.

He's got to remember that Froch would rather fight someone else anyway. Can't be too demanding. Get the fight, win it, make the big time.

Or maybe he knows he's got the option of going after Bika and winning a world title in his own right? I'm sure Eddie Hearn has it all planned out based on their next meeting making him a stack load of cash.

Imagine if it was a unification fight? Would be phenomenal.

There's a difference between getting paid close to what you deserve versus asking for too much.

You're reading too much in to it mate.

Froch: George, I'll give you £1,000,000 for the rematch
    Groves: No

Groves: I want £2,000,000 for the rematch
    Froch: No

You can look at it either way. As with all fights, unless someone flat out refuses to negotiate (Like Calzaghe with Froch, or Hatton with Witter) you can't really say anyone is backing out of the fight. Froch also had to release the statement today based on his comments earlier in the week.

IBF have ordered an immediate rematch

Froch has to fight Groves or vacate the belt.

Groves laughs off 'amazing' offer of £1,000,000.

Yh just seen it on ssn, hadnt realised til then. Does change it somewhat. It's definitely on then, nice one. Froch can't afford to give up the belt.

Totally agree...the referee felt the need to jump in for whatever reason, groves could quite easily have covered up for the remaining rounds and still won on points!!! Can't wait for the rematch
