Yeah I'm excited by the signings made thus far and if/when he does go wish him well and his replacement.
But our spreadsheet doesn't have that filter, and never has. What it did have was interference from a fat useless lump who chose to ignore its findings because it thought it knew better. Neerav has made it clear that the spreadsheet covers and follows ALL players regardless of age.
Would you have been happy for us to sell them both to Luton this time last year? It's only through mismanagement and poor decisions that we've got ourselves in our current mess which is giving Luton the opportunity to take advantage.
I would not have been happy as were in the championship & had just been in the play offs , what we should have done is exactly what Luton are doing & that was to have invested in the team to try & take us one step further but alas we decided to sell our manager, let our captain go , our most experienced defender allowed to leave & a top striker was allowed to return to his club without trying to keep him here in some shape or form .
I've had a little look on the Luton forum, and their reaction is very similar to a lot of our fans when we were linked with Morris. Too much focus on his goalscoring record. As I pointed out at the time (having seen him play a few times for Shrewsbury), his game is about much more than scoring goals. He was the perfect foil for Daryl Dike the season before last. His all round play is exceptional, and for me, all that held him back from scoring 20 goals last season, was the lack of supply. He still managed 1 in 3 in all competitions despite struggling for fitness, which is 15 goals a season form. Carlton is one of the best all round strikers I've seen at this club.
I'm with you on the sentiment but some of your points were out of our hands, surely? - We didn't sell our manager. His contractual release fee was met and he wanted to go. I doubt we were going to convince him to remove that from his deal, and maybe he wouldn't have come to us without it being inserted in the first place? - We offered Mowatt the best salary in the history of Barnsley Football Club. We didn't really 'let him go', did we? We tried to do the opposite? - Nobody really knows the facts on Dike and that deal will always be one of the strangest in my time (Dane saying the deal was agreed regardless of promotion - which can't have been true). I don't think the departing CEO didn't want to keep him here. I think the acting CEO had no interest in trying to do anything there. I'm not sure Dike ever saw it as more than a short term thing either With you on Soll though. He was worth keeping in the squad given who was leaving.
I've written this on here before, but I'll write it again: we had zero chance of keeping Carlton Morris. Why? Firstly because he's a very good player and there were bound to be offers from Championship clubs. But most importantly, because I've never before seen a player that was as frustrated with his hapless team mates as Morris. There was no way he was going to spend another season busting his guts with us while all around him was dross. He tried his best for Barnsley and seemed to like the club but he clearly wanted to play with better players. My only surprise is a bigger club (apologies Luton) haven't outbid them. Quality player.
I expected Woodrow, Styles, Helik and possibly Collins to be sold but thought we would hang on to Morris. Looks like our strike force will be struggling again this season as good forwards like Morris and Woodrow are hard to come by.
We'd not really heard of Woodrow or Morris when they signed. Times change. There will be new strikers.
Heard from a Luton Source ( relative of a player) that they have bid £1.5m for Morris and that the other Championship interest is Huddersfield who have bid £1.2m. Oh and the Woodrow fee is 750k. Just passing on what I’ve been told
