Apologies if this has been posted before but I haven’t come across it. Jamie Carragher tweeted this: Just wondered if anyone has done it and what teams people have. I imagine the older users on here will have the slightly better sides as players move around a lot more these days. Anyway, this is my team: GK: Oblak DEF: Ramos DEF: Nesta DEF: Lahm MID: De Bruyne MID: Gerrard MID: Giggs MID: Hamsik LW: Mbappe ST: Bergkamp RW: Messi Had a midfielder as my last one to find and I really struggled to get anyone in that fit with the regulations. Went with Hamsik but very nearly put Conor in just because.
He was too young (J Carragher ) to see him at his peak But played in his lifetime. George Best would have to have been in there.
I watched the MOTD programme with Lineker, Shearer and Wrighty last night. They were attempting to rank the best European " import" ever to play in the English Premiership. Personally I agreed with Lineker who cited Thierry Henry as his number one and was rather surprised that Wrighty and Shearer elected to put Roy Keane first. I concur he was an excellent player, but his off field conduct, particularly his attitude towards Mick McCarthy left an awful lot to be desired. He’s a good one too with his nationality as there’s not a lot of competition from that. He was a fair few years before my time, as you can probably tell given my choices.
Agreed. I saw the article on the BBC sport and put Henry top of my list. I respect Keane for what he’s achieved but not only his personality pulls him down but I also know who I’d rather go and watch play. Henry was absolutely class.
Very difficult that. Had to put country in one column and club in another. Then had to Google them to make sure they didnt play anywhere else early on or on loan Here's mine Van der Saar Maldini Ramos Kompany McGrain Pele Beckenbauer Maradona Eusebio Shearer Salah Very attacking but what a team that would be.
I watched a very interesting piece on You Tube yesterday. It's title " Red Mist- Roy Keane & Mick McCarthy civil war." I have to say, whilst as captain you could have some sympathy with Keane and his team mates regarding the poor facilities in preparation for the World Cup in 2002, in my view, there was absolutely no excuse for the language and disgraceful attitude of Keane towards Mick McCarthy. I was absolutely amazed at the number of contributors who actually took Keanes side. Niall Quinn came down on Micks side by saying Keanes conduct was unacceptable and Jack Charlton gets it spot on when he says that had Keane spoken to him, like he did to big Mick, he would have "put him through the door." The film runs for just under an hour and is well worth a watch.
I did something similar with columns. You better instruct Beckenbauer to sit and be disciplined because he’s not getting a lot of help coming back from those in front of him! Good team though.
It's really tough this challenge, unfortunately your team has a few players who've played together or played for same teams. Maldini, Vieria, Ronaldo all played for AC. Modric and C.Ronaldo played together Schmeichel and Ronaldo both ex Man Utd.
C Ronaldo is difficult to slot in as he's played for a lot of big clubs. Messi is a better bet having played for one club in Europe.
I'll give it one more go. Casillas Lahm-Van Dijk-Terry-Maldini De Bruyne-Vieira-Messi Son-Larsson-Sukür
It’s going to have to be third time lucky I’m afraid. Terry and De Bruyne both at Chelsea. Vieira and Maldini at Milan. Messi and Larsson at Barca.
