I'd question it, Jim. It just wasn't there tonight. Lad needs a rest.

We won, but let's not pretend that Woodrows playing well by his own high standards.
I think that the debate comes from him playing every minute of every game in a team that has struggled for goals all season until Iseka and Cole became more involved.

I’m not pretending he’s playing well, I’m just not having that everything is his fault, and not accepting the ludicrous views that he doesn’t ‘try or only gives 50%

When was the last time you contributed something positive to this forum? You only ever come on to moan about something or someone. It didn’t just start with your Swansea ticketing meltdown either. I think we need to get you back down to Oakwell to have a refresher course over tea and biscuits - worked last time.

Woodrow put a right shift in tonight like he always does. Did he get everything right? No. Was he deliberately dropping deeper when we didn’t have the ball? Yes. Was that likely instructions from the manager? Yes again. He was involved in many a good move though and led the press at times or encouraged others when to stay or go. He also had every right to take that free kick first half, in my opinion, as if he scores one more won’t that equal Mowatt from last season, who took every one?

On a straight one for one which of our currently available players would you drop him for?

Nothings his fault, he gets picked and does his best but as the main and probably best paid striker he's lead a charmed life this season while everyone around him has taken stick.

Why would you question his effort, he works his nads off every game irrespective of his good/ bad he’s played

Trying too hard imo. Agree he could benefit from a rest.

Because the 'effort', which has scraped him through most games this season, just wasn't there tonight, IN MY OPINION. That's all it is, an opinion.

So the coaches are wrong and you are right. It’s not ‘Woodrow loving’ it’s simply defending against the largely incorrect and the over the top criticisms

Again, There was no evidence of a lack of effort, there really wasn’t

I saw him dropping slightly deeper to link play between two deep lying central midfielders and two more advanced attackers (both of whom scored) and we won.
I don’t give all the credit for that to CW but like several others in this thread I don’t see a lack of effort even though he may not be at his best.
As I stated earlier he gets in my team.

I'm not sure the "effort" flag everyone keeps labelling players with is really the thing.

Nobody doesn't put effort in. Playing poor and not at their best, often in totally confusing and bewildering tactics etc has been on view plenty of times this season, but effort I don't think so.

Example, brittain got hammered at Blackpool, poor yes, effort, absolutely not. He was shagged, and never stopped running, but often in the wrong place mainly down to how he was tasked to play amongst his other team mates.

Effort has never been a problem as far as I can see.

Ive seen post like this before mate, people saying Woodrow put a right shift in. Coveted every blade of grass. But in the same game he gave ball away at least 15 times, snatched at an impossible shot with a player wide open and missed a couple of sitters. ( all of which happens most games lately).

he’s a striker I don’t want him to put a shift in I want our midfielders to do that. I want Woodrow to score goals. How often does Billy Sharp put a shift in

The goal was conceded because of a combination of the moronic tactic of having all 11 players back defending a corner in your own box, and Collins, who was otherwise excellent as usual, not dealing with a garbage high looping ball into the box.
