Mike Morris regularly used to tell me to **** off. Not an A-list celebrity I grant you, but he conducted the first live interview with Nelson Mandela on British television. If you don't know who he is, he was a presenter on Good Morning Britain and later Calendar. We used to go for a cig together just before Calendar went on air. He swore a lot and was always telling me to to **** off. I think some people thought he was a bit of a t.wat, but I thought he was a smart bloke. Before securing a full time position at Yorkshire Television I'd done a few months unpaid work there. When a position opened up and I was invited back for an interview I found out that Mike had put in a good word for me. To be honest, I don't think he cared if I was good at my job or not, he just wanted someone to smoke with. I haven't seen him for years, so I've just looked him up on Wikipedia. He died last year. I didn't know, so I'm feeling pretty sad this morning.

I once called Richard Whiteley a dirty old lovely person. Before he died, like. As has already been said in this thread, he was a t.wat. I was stood with him at Yorkshire Television's 30th anniversary do and he was letching after all the young women. It went on for a while. I'd had a few so I told him exactly what I thought of him.

You were probably too old for him to be interested.

John Aldridge, boxing day game against Tranmere. He stepped up to take a pen in front of Ponte, stopped to do his trademark stutter and skied it. He somehow managed to pick me out amongst the rest of the ponte who were giving him jip to tell me to **** off you 4 eyed lovely person.

Not really celebrities, but ex reds John McDonald and Malcolm Shotton both told me to f*** off at a Player of the Year dinner many years ago. Their attitude to one of their biggest fans at the time still lingers. Not been to a Player of the Year do since, partly because of that and also because it's held at the Holiday Inn. If I had a dog I wouldn't take it for a meal there.

What happened? Why the abuse? I always liked Malcom Shotton as a bloke as much as a footballer.

I complemented John McDonald on a goal he scored at Bradford City in a win there. He responded with something along the lines of "I bet that's the only match you went to". I told him I had a season ticket and had been to over 80 different grounds to see Barnsley play. His constructive response to that was "F*** Off".

Malcolm Shotton was more complex. Unknown to me, his wife and child sat behind me in the west stand in those days. I didn't know who they were at first, thought they were just fans. I got talking to them and others (like you do when you sit in the same seat for every game) and one day on Red Nose Day I brought a red nose and gave it to the little lad, who loved it. Malcolm Shotton didn't like this and collared me at the Player of the Year dinner and threatened to break my jaw. It was about the time of the "altercation" with John Deehan on the coach back from Bramall Lane. I thought long and hard about it for about 0.1ms and decided to run away. As I left, he told me to "F*** Off".

It was all soon forgotten and I jumped as high as anyone when he scored that wind assisted goal from about 230 yards against Sunderland at Oakwell.

Lovely. Really disappointed by the behaviour of both those players in those two situations. I had a lot of time for both of them.

I was disappointed too as I was a big fan of both of them. However, I have to add that there was a lot of alcohol involved. Personally I think that Malcolm Shotton had something of a reason by way of a misunderstanding about his missus, and he was fine afterwards about it.

John MacDonald was just an unpleasant big head. By the way, Chris Harrison, a director at the time and a neighbour of mine, heard the conversation and tore into him.

John MacDonald was a pr'ck of the highest order in my opinion.
Back in the day, when I used to frequent Japanese Whispers, he and Paul McGugan were always to be found at one particular bar.
I used to go along with a member of my family who will remain nameless, but safe to say she seemed to attract kn0bhead footballers.
He was the most disgusting letchy, slimey human being. He wasn't much to look at either, but he seemingly thought he was God's gift to the female species. Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it. In fact, turning the thread on its head, I think there's every chance we told him to foxtrot oscar.

That story fits my image of him perfectly.

By the way, I also used to drink at times in Japanese Whispers with Gerry Taggart and Lee Glover (on loan). They were totally different and great guys to be with.
