That's Buttler's one day captaincy over.

Out without troubling the win column but we weren’t thrashed in either game let’s be honest.

Afghanistan are no chumps - remember they are here as they qualified, via their World Cup results I think, over more illustrious test nations than them like Sri Lanka and West Indies - fair play to them.

I do think we let them off the hook after having them four down as early - 325 was too many. I’d say 300 - 310 was par.

Even then we were a couple of poor shots from lower order batsmen who primarily bowl away from chasing it down. Yes it’s a poor result but it was a good game of cricket I thought.

If it said Sri Lanka on their shirts I don’t think many would be saying it was embarrassing. Afghanistan will go above us and possibly Sri Lanka in the rankings after this.

He should have been stripped of the captaincy a while ago. Absolutely pathetic leadership.

How we miss Eoin Morgan in this format both as skipper and player.

There's more than a few of those cricketers that have played their last game for England.

Very underrated batter as his captaincy was so good, but his aggression with the bat was lethal in the middle order

Totally agree with you there, although I have said that for over a year yet. He has as much charisma as a wet fish. I hope he falls on his sword and never gets near the England teams again.

The 50 over one day game is far better than the crash bang wallop of the t20 format which along with the hundred is having a detrimental effect on English cricketers in.my opinion.

Fingers crossed mate, this just ain't one poor tournament, the one day side have been out of sorts for a while now, new leadership on the pitch is required IMO.

Right choice, but no obvious choice to replace him. I wouldn't be giving it an out of sorts Harry Brook. Let him concentrate on getting his form back. They need to stop the obsession with 90mph bowlers. Broad and Anderson bowled in the 80s and were fine servants. It's about variation as well as speed. Sam Curran needs to be called up. He should never have been scrapped.

Right decision and glad he’s jumped rather than br pushed. I hope he continues to play for England for many years, he’s the best white ball player we’ve ever produced and if he gets back to anywhere near his best he will be an unbelievable asset to the team. First thing I’d do is get him up the order in ODIs, probably opening instead of Salt and blood the younger lads at 5 or 6.

someone like salt may become captain, morgan wasn't the most consistant player but an amazing captain to compensate, can't compare with brearley but you know what i mean,
buttler is an amazing batter/wk and still got 2 or 3 years left in him, i'd sooner stokes get the job and use a mobile from the sidelines ;-)

Probably for the best. Hope he goes out with a win!
Salt needs to sort out his batting before he can even be considered for captaincy.

He plays like a kamikaze pilot but keeps surviving.
Root, Duckett and Adil are proper world class but the rest are really poor.
It’s a 50 over game for gods sake so why don’t they keep the ball on the floor?…. Duckett and Root have repeatedly shown it can be done !!
