I think in Woodrow and Morris we have the firepower to steer clear, though saying that we had Dyer when we went down in 2002.

We had Dyer and Sheron banging them in and Lumsdon and Barnard chipping in from midfield but that arsehole Parkin brought in Richard f@@king Naylor and boll xed things up.

No way will sheffield United be anywhere near the drop. Blackpool, Luton, posh, Derby, Huddersfield and possibly us. Will be in or around the bottom 5 would be my guess at this minute.

What worries me is the report from the other day (granted, one pre-season game is hardly anything to go by), but 'playing out from the back constantly' fills me with fear, so what will it do to Mads? He's just got used to not playing those silly games, I fear a meltdown, the memory of life under Stendel coming back to haunt him. Having said that, the getting it down on the deck and passing it, spraying short balls from side to side, and free-flowing football bit sounds ideal, so who knows. At least this time we are stronger up top (compared to life under Stendel/Struber) so we will have to see. I hope we will at least be comfortably mid-table, but maybe we will reach the dizzy heights of last season.

If you get time, I'd have a quick watch of the highlights from the other day, or watch out for the other friendlies. It's early still, so there is no guarantee it will continue this way and he may well evolve game by game to target the opposition, we'll have to see.

But the attempt to play out had much more pace to it and there were numerous points where it was played into midfield and Styles or Brittain injected pace into the move to push forward. There was one dicey instance where Collins had the ball, but I wouldn't let Strubers more ponderous slow build up affect how you view the first glimpse of this new era.

Thanks mate, here's hoping! I think pace is the key to success with playing out from the back, and you're right Struber's slow build was painful and led to all manner of errors.

I didn't see loads of the Struber era, and its difficult to judge playing out under Stendel given the law change and the large transition of the defensive unit and unfair to compare it to now that players have much more experience since then.

There was much more first time passing to keep the ball moving and the front three (first half) looked more of a unit. There were misplaced passes of course, but there is always going to be, and we turned the ball over willingly before.

It may work, it may not. Some may like it more. Some may not. It's very early days still. The game against Watford will probably give us a better idea of how we may set up and what style we can expect.

Come to think of it I think we played it out from the back more under Stendel and that's when we saw the comedy of errors (with Mads, Bambo and Radlinger mainly). Under Struber we went a bit more direct from goal kicks I believe. But you're right about experience and I'm glass half-full, excited for new season!

I'm reckoning lower mid table for us! Fine by me after the play off hangover.
Morris could shine this season methinks

No, the kicking it to Mads and back again was under Struber.. Eventually Walton decided just to boot it sometimes. But there were a lot of defensive errors and mix ups under Stendel communication was dire but that was hardly unexpected when it was an all new defence who hadn't played in the Championship before.

Thanks Helen, I couldn't quite remember the order of events! I just remember feeling for Mads, Sibbick, Bambo etc when we first got back in the championship, and was nervous every time they touched the ball.

If we do, considering the entire first team coaching structure was changed within 4 weeks of the season starting, our best two players departed and we had no CEO for most of pre season it'll go down as a bigger achievement than last year.

We were a mid table side in the period whilst Struber was in charge.
We were aiming for a mid table finish before we signed Dike last season under that Val.
It looks like we're keeping the core of the team from last season so I reckon we'll finish mid table - anywhere between 10th and 14th.

It's not exactly rocket science is it?
