Just checked - they have already signed Macauley Bonne from QPR and Joe Pigott from AFC Wimbledon. Conor gets a start if they play a front three.
Good move for all parties deceptively slow and his right foot isn't even a swinger but always gave 100% and seems a nice lad
That's part of the problem with Miller though isn't it? We're beginning to be overloaded up top (especially if Oulare comes in) and he's featured in 6 games in two years for us. Time to move him on I think.
To be fair to Chaplin last season’s style of play under Val was never going to suit him but hopefully Ipswich can get more out of him has i think Div one is more his level.
I’m not in the know but I doubt we paid owt like that for a lad who wasn’t a massive star in the league below.
It's all well and good "moving someone on" but doing so has a number of issues to it. Firstly, if you deem someone isn't good enough for your level (and that would seem to be the case given a complete lack of game time under multiple coaches over multiple years) you have to find a buyer. That buyer is likely to be below your current league. League 1 and 2 aren't exactly awash with cash so it's likely you'll have to forego much of a transfer fee for the player, if there is demand. So up front, we're likely writing off the alleged £200k or so we paid for him. If the player doesn't hand in a transfer request, he's due all of his contractual wages. So if you release him, you have to pay them off, or you come to an agreement with the player who may forego some of it if has a deal lined up. The problem being, someone going down the ladder is unlikely to get paid the same level they've been on. Its therefore better for the player to run their contract down and maximise the time being paid at the higher salary. The club may then decide to try and loan them out and at least get some contribution to wages, and if not, they stay here and get some game time out of them at some level to at least make use. It would be good to free up space in the squad but the sad reality is to do that, we're likely writing off £250k+ for the pleasure of doing so. And that's just one fringe player.
If he goes I wish him all the best. If he stays I wouldnt complain either. Good player. Tries his best. Always has the time for fans. Just an overall brilliant lad. He as the ability. He scored 11 in his first season with us in the championship. Last year it was a complete different system for him
I have just started playing Sunday league again and we were low on numbers in our friendly yesterday. Probably about his level.
All fair points. I guess we just ship him out on loan again until his contract is up lol. What a waste.
I’ve kept wanting it to work out for him but other than that freak month in December 19 I don’t think he’s ever looked a championship quality player.
His best performances were when he was scoring regularly with Brown in the team who got plenty of crosses into the box and he was getting great service. IIRC they combined for more goals than any other pair in the league. Since then the change in formation didnt really suit him.
Just checked 20/21 - 11 goals in 44 appearances | 4 assists. 19/20 - 4 goals in 34 appearances | 3 assists. 18/19 - 8 goals in 31 appearances | 3 assists.
