Remember our local "wideboy" Killer " K once offered me a video recorder in our local Club one night.
Told me that I could have either a Betamax or VHS. Unfortunately it would be unboxed without operating
instructions, but would be in a plastic bag with all its leads and the controller etc. Against my desire to please my
kids I declined, but a mate of mine bought one.

Around a week later, I heard that my mate who had bought one had been arrested. "Someone" had chucked a
brick through Miller Brothers storeroom window in Donny. It then meant sense when being asked to choose between
Betamax and VHS when Killer said " you'll have to see cos it hasn't happened yet." Gave that lad a very wide berth
after that incident.

 

It was televised on the Sunday following our Monday night victory over Southampton at the Dell. We won 2-1. It was a bad winter and this tie was postponed a couple of times. It was played just as the strike was ending with a few of the men sitting around us chatting about the shift they would be on. The fact that enveryone was skint and the match was on TV had a significant impact on the attendance for the Liverpool game at Oakwell.
