That link wasn't posted in a response to your post or points. In fact, I agree with what you posted 100%.

I was merely adding what I believe to be the best article about the incident, for those who may not know all the details.

I apologise if I gave you the wrong impression.

I must say I still resent Hume for spending all that time injured with all the good will in the world from our fans and his wages being paid to refuse to come back to us from Preston, especially after how much we paid for him.

When you deliberately strike somebody in the head, of course you mean to cause harm

I think Morgan wanted to take Ian Hume out of that game. I don't see any other reason why one player would swing an elbow at the head of another in an off the ball incident. The blow was barely disguised. In law if you push someone over and they fall and smash their head, you're responsible to the full extent of their injury. I have no sympathy whatsoever for Chris Morgan.

The fact that he nearly took the life of another player is unforgivable.

As an ex-club captain, to return, and deal that blow, in a derby game, back at Oakwell - well that fades into insignificance to the effect he had on Hume - but it adds all the ingredients to make it a particular spiteful offence.

His subsequent behaviour, that of his club, that of the F.A. And that of the local media, was so vile that it pretty much guaranteed that an awful situation was made worse.

To this end, if the rest of his career rots in the lower leagues, and Sheffield United never return to a decent standard of football, that might be 10% of the karma that he and United deserve. I hope he was beside himself today.

I don't know that he deliberately struck him in the head.

Chris Morgan flung out an elbow, of that there is no doubt. I'm also pretty sure he was aware of Hume's presence. Where it gets blurry for me is whether he meant to strike Hume in the head or if he meant to connect with his shoulder/chest to fend him off.

If he went for Hume's head he's everything people have written about him and more. It's a disgusting act that would clearly cause serious injury.

If he went for Hume's body it's nothing I haven't seen a hundred times before. It shouldn't happen and it should still be a red card, but it's reckless not malicious.

I've seen the footage a hundred times, but I still don't know what he was trying to do. I know what he did, but I don't know if he meant to do it.

I was at that game and actually have wondered if what did the damage was the first elbow not the one that got all the attention. It made me feel sick because even from the east upper I could see the force in it. That he did it again a few minutes later left no doubt in my mind. As for the press, radio deedah repeatedly said no player would go out to deliberately injure another. Later that season a wild challenge by Shotton (then a red) prompted athe same accusation from a blade on radio. Deedah presenter said "there may have been something in that". The hypocrisy !!!!
