    Thug.

Although his assault on Hume was possibly the start of my love affair with Barnsley. That along with your demolition of Liverpool and Chelsea in the FA Cup.

He may have for all we know. Morgan is a thug who was very overated as a football player. But to say he's had multiple relgations with multiple teams and struggled in coaching to get a promotion despite being involved in one of if not the biggest budget in the league for a fair few seasons, he does very well to still not struggle to be wanted.

Be great to see them relegated this season, fingers crossed :D

I'm sure that Danny introduced Morgan into the Barnsley team during the Premiership season.

Yeah he's been involved in four seasons of relegations taking two clubs from the premiership to league one level. I doubt any other football player has done that.

I'm sure Barnsley have had their share of people involved over the years who aren't exactly whiter than white.

I'm going to do something here that I never thought I'd do & defend Chris Morgan.

When it first happened I was like most people, outraged, calling Morgan every abusive word I could think of, wanted him out of football etc but if we look back & we're honest about it then it's something that happens a lot in football.

What he did was wrong & I'm sure he knows it but it was a freak incident in that Hume was seriously injured.

How many times do we watch games where players do people with the elbow? And how often do we call them violent thugs & scumbags & the rest of it? We don't.

Robin Van Persie did people a few times with the elbow deliberately & got bans for it? Does anyone call him a violent thug?

The only difference is Hume ended up with a fractured skull.

I can't remember any specific players at the minute but I'm sure we've had players at Barnsley who've left the elbow in when going for headers & we've all cheered them & not abused them.

It's a bit like me going out hitting someone & them dying & another bloke hitting someone & him coming away with only a black eye. I'd be no more of a thug than the other bloke just a different outcome.

Anyhow, I just think that 6 or 7 years on from the incident, a bloke with no criminal record shouldn't still be classed as a violent thug for an incident that happens regularly in football & unfortunately is a part of the game

I agree with this post. Can't say I'm Morgan's biggest fan but he certainly didn't go up for that challenge with the intention of fracturing Hume's skull.

And those trying to belittle Morgan's career are just being bitter. He was a good centre-half and a born leader - we could do with someone with his passion at the back now.

When it happened we had Andy Johnson playing who'd done exactly the same thing to George Santos a couple of years before.

Although having had my nose broken by an elbow playing football I can't think of a more cowardly act on a football pitch

Intent isn't really the main issue however if you swing an elbow at someone's head then there is a chance you'll do some damage so while Morgan probably didn't intend to fracture Hume's skull he certainly intended to use his elbow so he has to accept responsibility for the outcome.

The most distasteful part of the incident in my opinion was the reaction of Morgan and the club in the aftermath. Some of their fans were despicable too but all clubs have their neanderthal element - the blunts are not exclusive in that respect.

Some of their fans were a disgrace. Coming to Oakwell & making elbow gestures was disgusting to see.

the galling fact for me was that sheffield united refused to accept their player was in the wrong

as i understand it morgan visited iain hume in hospital and the matter was put to bed between them personally but not legally of course. If sheffield united or Morgan had come out in public and apologised we might all feel differently today, as it was morgan was a decent footballer for us, its a shame hes remembered for this incident however.

Absolutely sickened me seeing that. It was rife at their ground when we relegated them - one bloke stood out; fat, green t-shirt and old enough to know better.

The only difference isn't that Hume ended up in hospital, its that Chris Morgan acted like an utter coward afterwards and his away refusing to acknowledge what he had done. A real man would have admitted what he had done and apologised but no, Morgan hid like the pathetic coward that he is

    Not only that.

Later that season, we played them away, and lost (2-1, I think.)

Towards the end of the game, their announcer said something like: "Tonight's attendance is whatever... and well played Chris Morgan."

They're a ******* disgusting club. Absolutely reprehensible. I wish them all the worst. God, I do.
