100% correct .... it gets my goat when JD ...... .... gets the plaudits for re-developing the ground. The simple truth is he/we had no choice but to re-develop the ground, I suspect if he/we had a choice at the time we would still have had the old brewery stand and ponty end for many more years. Another point about JD - he appointed Viv Anderson as manager - disaster - he then gave Danny Wilson the job on the cheap, i.e on the same money he was on as a player/coach and luckily for JD and the rest of us it came good, but it was more a fluke than an inspired decision, and I'll never believe otherwise
You could say the same about Shepand Ritchie. Employing a manager is not an exact sience. But you can't praise Shep for Ricthie without praising Dennis for Wilson. At the time, I thought the Anderson appointment was a forward thinking, brave decision.
RE: JD back on the board? Are you stark raving bonkers? why do you bother posting your just a complete idiot.
RE: 100% correct .... it gets my goat when JD ...... I disagree with that. Yes, the Taylor report forced his hand regarding ground improvements. However, he could easily have taken the easy option and settled for a very small 4 sided stadium (which other clubs in a similar position did) as opposed to creating a Premier League quality stadium. Further to this, the academy was not a league requirement and he spent a fortune on that (rightly or wrongly) I think it is foolish to doubt his ambition. In hindsight his decision making can be questioned but surely his ambition cannot be doubted. Regarding managerial appointments. I don't remember many people moaning about the appointments at the time, especially Spackers. All chairman make mistakes.
no fecking way hosay!!! I would rather see Pete Doyle back in charge! And thats saying summat. There is nowt wrong with the board as it is! Andy Richie is the guy who should be fetching in the players not the board! For fecks sake!!!!!! John Dennis! Thats a swear word.
the worst thing about this is i think you actually mean it! christ on a bike nudger! You come on here saying the club is going knowwhere and now you want us to go backwards. Doom and gloom merchant. (shakrhead)
Your memory is fading my friend ..... .... I would say that the appointment of Danny Wilson was, at the time, a very unpopular decision. I liked Danny Wilson as a player, but I was in a very, very small minority. He was booed and jeered every week by the majority of fans, when in my opinion he was let down by the other players around him. As such, I was prepared to give him a chance as a manager because he had a football brain, but most fans hated him as a player and ceratinly didn't want him as a cheap option manager, and that's exactly what he was. As for the stadium, we re-built the ground on the back of grants and by selling our best players, not because JD had a wonderful vision of the future for us
RE: Your memory is fading my friend ..... It was noted by many at the time (including players) that the Anderson/Wilson appointment was the wrong way round. Granted, Wilson wasn't popular as a player but he was respected as a coach. Unlike Viv who seemed more interested pissing about and being the joker. And as for cheap option managers...Bassett can't have been cheap, nor Spackman, nor Hendrie for that matter as he'd have been on a fair whack as a player. The stadium development was due to a mixture of factors. I'm not claiming it was a John Dennis master plan but then he has to be given credit for the impressive set up we currently have. Dennis made mistakes, no question. He also made some good decisions and was a dedicated servant of the club for a number of years. Credit where credit is due for fecks sake.
Some people................. wern't there OR wern't old enough to remember Others, including my self remember how things were in the Brewery Stand And why Danny wilson is brought into this debate I don't know There was a line of fairly succesful managers before Wilson These managers built the club brick by brick with the help of The Big JD Wilson was just the fortunate guy who was in charge when everything, or nearly everything, was ready for the final push Ask Eric Winstanley who got us into the Premeir League and he will explain this to you If I were Shep I would have JD on the board as an advisor The only reason this hasn't happened is because they had a falling out when Pat Cryne tried to inject money into the club when JD was struggling with mounting debts.
At the end of the day, when it was time to stand up and be counted JD buried his head in the sand and then did a runner.
I have nothing but utter contempt for the man.

Aye but how did the administrators get hold of the club?
Old muck but not cleared up.
JD is covered in it.

RE: Some people................. Weren't we alread a well established division one club at the time JD took over. If I'm not mistaken the turn around for the club was under Geoff Buckles Chairmanship.
