One of my favourites - don't remember which game but he saved a bullet header from point blank range - frankly a ridiculous save. And his clearances were a joy to watch.
Short, and fairly slight, for a GK, but properly agile, seem to remember him having a fair leap on him too. Excellent shot stopper. He'd be our first choice now, and for last few years.
My favourite ever goalie. Should have been a top 10 player in the top league. Only Watson and Mueller were better in my supporting lifetime.
Me too, and he was still the keeper after Clarke promotion season. Was deffo in goal when we won 2-0 at Hillsborough. Gary Pierce and Martin New, Bobby Horne, Jake Findlay and Andy Rhodes all between him and Baker
I think a few are being kind to suggest he was 5’10” in his playing days. That must have been with long studs on a frozen pitch! Past his peak by the time he turned out for Ipswich in the premier league but it was good to see him on Sky. Until he lost his place to Craig Forrest.
Haha - yeah I can remember him. He didn’t play much though. Think he might have been part of that Reds team that didn’t win any of first 7(?) games.
Clive left on a free in the summer of '91, near the same time as Agnew & Tiler. And I think we got a combined £2.2 mill. It was hard to lose three quality players like that, but Mel lost the plot with who he spent that transfer budget on in the pre season.
https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bar...349/plus/?saison_id=1990&pos=&detailpos=&w_s= Agreed it wasn't a great season to lose Agnew and Tiler for according to the link 2.8 million Euros and then of the five we brought in only Rambo did owt.
I didn't realise we had Alan Moore, the tricky goalscoring winger who started well at Middlesbrough . And what on earth happened with Stuart Rimmer, he was bought in March and sold in August!.
Not sure transfermkt is accurate. Seem to recall we received a club record fee of £1.4m for Tiler, and £700,000 was the sum for Aggie.
Went down with mate to watch them train pre-season.. they had shooting practice and i seem to recollect Machin stood in the centre, head down looking at his feet, as hardly any shot hit the target. The players were just laughing their heads off. End of the season I think we finished eighth.
No that was the previous season (when we signed Rammell), I'm on about who Mel signed in the summer of '91, with the transfer budget he was given. And I wonder how much he was given to spend, out of the near £2.15 mill.
Rambo was indeed the pevious season. Can well recall Tarn fans chanting "Rambo, Rambo" as he was sat on the bench He sort of sent an embarassed wave. Came on and scored the winner! Darwen End was proper giddy! Lol
I remember seeing the headline on the Yorkshire sport teletext page. It said 'Barnsley sign Man Utd striker', and I was excited wondering who it was. And then (no offence to Andy himself) I thought Andy Rammell, err Ive never heard of him lol. But look at how popular he was in the 5 seasons with us.
Lol... me too strangely enough! Straight away when Rammell is mentioned i instantly think of West Ham in the Cup
