When Barnsley are playing, Barnsley. When England are playing, England. Infact, when either are playing I still support the other. Don’t understand the club over country mentality myself.
Zero interest in international football, I'm not sure the last time I watched a world cup or euros game. Sadly its not just football, but cricket too. I'll probably watch Andersons last outing, but I think i'll call it a day then.
There’s nothing to understand really mate. I mean, things just are, aren’t they? No-ones making you choose, you enjoy both! I don’t get the craziness that grips the nation every 2 years. But that’s just me, it just doesn’t get me going like the reds do. I’ll actually be more interested in Hungarys progress than Englands, because of Callum Styles. Most on here might find that a bit weird, but it’s just different people having different feels. The Barnsley connection for me is far stronger than the England one ever will be. The one I do find baffling is when you get people who ‘support’ Man Utd or Liverpool despite living their entire life round here, who then try and shove the In-ger-Lund stuff down your throat and think there’s summat wrong with you if you don’t actively support them. I like to use their own logic and tell them I want France or Germany to win, just to mess with their heads.
Well I had time on my hands and looked for an English team to favour. Have no interest in the big teams. Supporting them would give little pleasure and getting tickets difficult. Met a Barnsley fan off Tykes mad. Met up and he introduced me to Oakwell. Also saw film of you guys celebrating when you played Chelsea and Liverpool and thought Barnsley could be the team for me. And not too far away. Since then I’ve met many wonderful people male and female. Football people who like the game for what it is. Also many on the board I feel I do know although never met. All decent people. TBH you all have a club worth supporting. And I love being part of it.
TBH Ian he could have asked me. He has the honour of being my Great (use of the word loosely ) Nephew. .
Would that be a scottish kiss lol. . In fact thinking about it. I'm pretty sure his Girlfriend originates from up your way. He's punching above his weight. .
If it was Barnsley promotion out of league one or England to win the Euros or World Cup then I’m picking England. We’re one of the biggest clubs in league one & will end up going up at some stage in the next few years where as I don’t have that confidence with England.
Reminds of the time I was in the local club and this fella I know was giving it large at the bar, shouting about how the Tories are the greatest, I tried to push through to the bar and he stopped me, I asked him why he thought he could do that, he responded by saying "I'm a country member", to which I said "yes, I remember".
They're not really exclusive of each other. They never clash, the big games for England mainly in the summer months. I think I have more feeling for BFC, but once these summer tournaments get going I'm just as invested.
Not too far, think her mum might be from Dundee but she’s from Perth. She moved to Manchester after covid and I met her from one of these online things. Typical Gen Z. First date was a laugh. After 3 drinks she couldn’t understand me and vice versa. Ended up texting on dance floor whenever asking each other if we wanted a drink because we had no clue what the other was saying. Tremendous lass though, as Uncle Hooky says I’m punching. Edit: ‘She’ has a name, r lass
I have always been club way over country, and still am really. However, we regularly yoyo between League One and Champ, and if we're lucky(!), that may continue over the next decade and beyond, unless our status diminishes. The promotions are amazing when they happen but then inevitably, a relegation follows and we're back in League One again. So I think if I could choose England to win a World Cup (far superior to Euros IMO) or Barnsley to get out of League One the same season, I actually might choose England. If it was Barnsley to win an actual trophy (not the JPT/Bristol Street etc), i.e. FA or League Cup, I would 100% choose that over any England trophy. A Euros, World Cup, an FA Cup or even EFL Cup are 'permanent' trophies, whereas a promotion finishing runners up say just ends up being reversed with a relegation. I barely even watch England friendlies and am not bothered about qualifiers really as we always qualify easily these days, but once this tournament starts I'll be desperate for us to win.
Well Mark said... "... used to be a Big country member (then pause), and then err yes, we do remember! ." At the time, it took me a few seconds to get it lol. Btw Rich, who is the nice doogie in the avatar ?.
Club all day long. Deffo want England to do well and will be cheering us on, but it’s got to the point now where I don’t know some of the England players, or have rarely seen them play for their clubs.
