I've seen that on the welsh mining forum and I don't know what they are on about,i cant remember being balloted to save a welsh pit.

somebody also wants to remind them that cortonwood wasn't the only pit announced to close at the start of the strike, there was also bullcliffe wood in Yorkshire plus one Scottish pit and one welsh pit.
cortonwood(where I worked) took all the headlines because it was the biggest pit, wasnt on its last legs and had just been assured of the next five years.

Can remember the welsh miners picketing our pit in 1982 and we refused to cross their lines they had MST of the Barnsley area out and that's when NUM promised them a national ballot for future closures if they called off their pickets

I remember the ballot to strike for pit closures if they wernt on grounds of exhaustion and that's the argument we used in the strike when everyone kept saying we hadn't had a ballot, but I'm at a loss as to anyone singing about it,

The ballot came about because of the welsh miners tbh, the closure was a big thing in south wales at the time and they were very hurt and angry.
The pickets were put up at the junction pub in measbrough dyke but the national union wanted the notts miners on board even though every other area supported them, some fekin good that did eh.
The notts miners held a gun to the head of the rest of britains miners for fekin years.

like you said marlon they've always gone against national ballots,i was told by a union bloke that there were even some pits that turned coal during the 72 and 74 strike strikes.

There view always was that it would never effect them as they wrongly believed that their larger more profitable area would be untouched

The miners were given a 5.2 pay rise in 1982 , coal stocks were low and we played into the Tory's plot . Two years later BOOM ! Let's have em , coal stocks are high .

I also heard that, also one of the reasons Bill Sirs gave for not supporting us at S****horpe (by using coke from Orgreave) was that miners used Steel from British Steels stockpile during the steel strike. Many of us were at a loss as we had gone way out of our way not to do that even to the extent of salvaging rings from old workings to use. But apparently it was our old friends in notts that were the culprits for that but obviously kept quiete.

it wasn't just a view either, they were told by the coal board and the government their pits were safe and they believed it,they even had tory mp's going underground during the strike to be filmed on the face with the working miners, scabby fcukin tw@ts.

I remember being sent to salvage old rings because we wouldn't use british steel,i also remember rings and girders being put back into shape with the press in the pit bottom.

Yep all through history these fekin vermin in notts have fecked the fight for miners all over Britain to have a better life and thwarted our efforts for justice social and civil.
Indeed it took the almost extinction of the industry and the discardment of its work force before a decent wage (without bonuses) were paid but the pay was always above national average in notts pre strike.
If there was only one scab in the crowd on Saturday it was well worth the effort to remind him

Was good to see the banners out yesterday, people in NCB jackets and the crowd not letting anyone forget.

Saw a few blokes with donkey jackets on in No.7 and I have nothing but respect for them.

    Heroes of our community.

Some of the twitter replies to photos going round are truly remarkable. Many South Yorkshire clubs' fans lambasting the efforts
