Thought he was out of contract, though we could just sign him and let a tribunal decide... surly they wouldn't rule he was worth more than 400k

Looked a very talented player in the recent game against Colchester. I actually enjoyed watching him. I posted about him on here in the aftermath of that game. It's weird to think he made such an impression considering I felt a bit sick at throwing two points away that afternoon. Think that speaks volumes.

He scored against us at their place this and last season too.

Number ten though int he? Not a striker, not a centre mid. £500,000 is steep in my opinion. Not because I don't think he's worth it. I wouldn't know, I haven't seen him regularly to form a fair opinion. But £500,000 seems a lot of money for us to be spending on a L2 player. Seems a lot of money for us to be spending full stop.

Cant say I did. They looked among the worst sides I've seen at that level in the time we've been back down and not one of them stood out as being too good for them.

Don't be daft you have to choose. Do you not remember all the 'I'd rather be promoted than win the JPT' threads we had?

I really rate him. If we can sign him it would be a strong Signing and fits the recruitment strategy perfectly

He was the best player on the pitch at Oakwell

A couple of years ago, Plymouth turned down our first two offers for Conor Hourihane before we were able to sign him. I wonder whether history is about to repeat itself (albeit for quite a bit more money)?

You seem not to notice quite a lot of incidents at oakwell judging by your posts.

Interesting people are saying that 4/500k is too much for a League Two player. Technically he is a Lg 2 player but in reality he's a very good League One standard player who has performed at that level very well over the course of last season. So in real terms we're paying for a very capable League One player. I often balk at transfer fees and keeping in mind our financial situation and reliance on PC, £500k seems hefty. But lets remember, we aren't after good League 2 prospects here now are we? We now need to look at the top League One players and unfortunately they command a higher price. We could get a Winnall and a Hourihane for relatively low fees two years ago, coming from League Two clubs. Now though, to get a Bradshaw, a Sawyers, a Madden or a Moncur you have to pay more.

Oh when I do see someone who looks good I'll be the first to say. Payne for Southend, Ariyibi for Chesterfield both looked very, very good. I cant say I walked out of Oakwell after the Colchester game even knowing Moncur had played though, think a lot on here are bigging him up because we're linked.

Looked a decent player at oakwell and I'm sure the sout ing team have done their homework on him. Don't want us to be held to ransom by teams like colchester. But I do trust our scouting team if they think he is worth the money o trust them. See what happens I also thought payne at Southend who plays a similar role to moncur looked good at oakwell.

Exactly that he played in a really poor team. So how can we rate him to be amongst the best in the division?

Could have said the same about any of our players in October/November/December.

Plymouth had an average season the year we sign Hourihane.

I thought moncur was a very decent player and played well as a team player at oakwell even though his team mates weren't on the same level.
At oakwell I think he will have that platform and will hopefully progress under hecky and co into his full potential
,the key is he needs to develop further and his price should take that into consideration probably a similar deal for them as we had with Stonesy.

I thought Moncur was Colchester's best player by a mile and a few of us said he would be a great signing for us. I guess we all see games and players differently. £500k seems about the right price to me for a player with decent experience and bags of potential. He is also the type of player we don't currently at the club.

So I'm voting 'in' on Moncur @ £500k if that's what we've got to pay.

Just before everyone balks at 500k. Didn't we once go to 450 for a certain player but refused to go that extra to 500k. That player then getting sold for 8 million.

But then again our recruitment at that time wasn't as scientific and thoughtful as it is now. So if we don't budge fair do. I just hope we don't regret it
