I said before the start of the season that it would be nice if he could get 15 again this season. Well I may have to slide the scale up towards 20 now. We’re playing to his strengths a lot more now with low crosses but he’s also got his confidence up, hence the first goal. As others have said, contract needs sorting.
Of course, it had to be you that said it ey? I don't think anyone has mentioned otherwise about it 'only' being in league one. Just praising the lad. He worked so hard last season, and did well. This season it's paying off even more so. Hopefully it continues for us!
Why does it have to be said? He’s not playing in the Championship, is he? Can’t compare with doing it in the champions league either, or a World Cup final.
I very much doubt we will get him to sign one unfortunately this will be his one chance of getting a highly lucrative contract with a club daft enough to pay him £20k a week As @Merde Tete said to me at match yesterday be interesting if a few million quid offer came in, in January - our resolve would be tested and he could even try and push something through. One thing that I don’t think the so called spreadsheet factors in (or perhaps it does) is that strikers seem to peak a bit later in general for whatever reason. Definitely think we are seeing this with cole. I would imagine we tried to tie him down last season so the fact he is in his last year speaks volumes. You can’t blame them for keeping their options open.
I wanted double figures from at least 2 players this season, wasnt reight bothered who scored em but really pleased for Devante, keep the faith, C,O,Y,R.
I think if Corey O’Keefe squeezes Barry Cotter out, he will hand Cole the other 12 on a silver platter. Cotter is quick, strong and exciting but O’Keefe looks to have excellent vision and awareness when sending the ball into the box. Cole’s first against Port Vale came from a sublime pass straight onto his toe end.
January will come and a team in the Championship will come in. It won't be one of the successful ones - they'll already have better strikers. It'll be someone near the bottom, who can't score for toffee. A financial basket-case, perhaps, who are willing to offer stupid wages on a last-ditch shart-or-bust gamble on Championship survival... Cole is going to Wednesday. You heard it here first.
the opening post was comparing goal tallies with players of the past or inferring that just pointing out some previous strikers weren't in pop & crisp league
I think you’re probably right. If he’s on say 15 by Jan then Championship sides will no doubt be sniffing around.
It really is bonkers. I imagine he’ll slow down at some point, unless he fancies a Messi like season!
He didn’t perform in a poorly managed side that created few chances but clearly had no confidence. I wouldn’t be surprised if he performed much better given another chance at Championship level. He may not of course but I think he has shown enough to be worth another chance. Hopefully with us next season but if not I’m sure someone will take him if he carries on like he has over the last 14 months Maybe even we will cash in in January if a Champ side comes in for him.
What an incredible game that was! But yeah same. As soon as I saw it curling towards the goal yesterday I thought of this goal.
I just hope he doesn't get sold at the first opportunity. Hes been on our books on and off, trying to get his career going, for over half a decade and now he's finally clicked i'd be peed off if he walked in January.
