Hee hee ....... ......... or (allegedly) fondling Joan's wotsit's like he did at Bristol (of all places!) when we first had the green and white shirts .... "nar then Joan, what does it say on the front (touching the sponsors name) .. oops, sorry!" ......... "it says the bloody same as on the shirt you've just played in yer pervert" ....... do you remember that? Very funny
RE: Hee hee ....... Id forgotten about that one. Ill mention it to him when I see the filthy perv............especially with it being Joan...she was old then!!!!
Never commanded his area , good shot stopper , prone to odd blip, swanseas 2nd at cardiff , not got enough physical presence for the modern game, comes off his line when he shouldn t stays back when he should . Do not think he will want to stay as back up to Hans the Giant because of his International aspirations ?
Extremely harsh view I've seen Nick play several times for Eire and to be honest i cant remember him having a bad game. I've also seen him play for Hibs and bar his lack of commanding his area for crosses (which personally i think he has improved upon) he was always a sound keeper. Yes he can be prone to errors but which keeper isnt? If a keeper makes a mistake it is remembered for a long time. You seem to remember his error at Cardiff. He made up for it with the penalty save. I dont hink he had a very good game that day but i do remember him having a good season and that is what really put us in this league. I find it astonishing you can firstly not give him any credit for that and then slag him off for us nearly dropping out of this league because of him. How many of the goals last season were down to his individual errors? Then count up how many were down to Reid, Kay etc. Whether or not he should come for certain crosses or not are down to the individual keeper at that moment in time. I remember Lucas coming for a couple and totally bolloxing them up. How bout Mannone and how he dropped that easy catch in last minute of a match. Have we forgotten about those? Maybe we should have signed one of those two? Im not blinkered in my view. Ireland fans know where his game is let down but many dont rate Paddy Kenny because he loses concentration and doesnt communicate. The younger lads are still finding their feet internationally and Shay Given is for me one of the top 5 keepers in the world. So to even be in the squad for internationals isnt bad for a keeper with so many faults eh? Im not saying Nick doesnt have faults. He does but to hammer him so harshly is out of line. As for him throwing a wobbler over being dropped, he was dropped before a couple of times and he stayed very focussed while on the bench and actually came on one occasion and did well. If he has had a fall out with Davey then maybe this stems from the lack of communication from Davey? Nick was left wondering whether he had a future here last summer. But he got on with it and apparantly had a good few friendly games. Personally i wonder if Davey is just good at pishing people off? Who knows? For me you are just using him as a scapegoat. I wonder who is going to be the next one if Nick leaves?
Been a good servant to the club. He has his weaknesses but he has done a good job for BFC. The abuse he has taken at times has been totally unwarranted. Agree he isn't quite good enough for Championship but I would be sorry to see him go. He is a good keeper to have on the bench. Good luck to him if he does leave.
Maybe he was asked to let O'Hanlon warm him up, he is a former internation keeper after all... Do you remeber Colgan's first match at MK Dons, all match he looked suss in the air, and they scored at the death because of it. My opinion has never changed since, he did the same for the first goal on Coventry, stood stock still as the ball flew in onto the heads of the strikers, reisgned to a shot being inevitable instead of racing out to fist it. Good servant though and let's face it... ...in twenty years time, those who were there will still remember the Cardiff penalties.
Shay Given - In the Top 5 Keepers of World?????? Are you having a laugh? Another keeper making his name on being a good shot stopper - but no top 5 keeper thats for sure. In the premiership alone I'd have ahead of Given: Cech & Cudicini Van der Sar Reina Howard That Bolton one Jaske ....whats his name Theres six and we haven't started on the Cassillas and Buffons of the foriegn game.
Seriously Given i reckon is one of the best 5 in the world. Hes also one of the smallest. Van Der Saar past his best. Reina has a similar problem to what everyone moans at Colgan for-not coming off his line. Howard are you serious? Wasnt deemed any good at Man U was he? Best in world got to be Buffon! Not sure about Cech. He would have been number two on my list but doesnt look as good as he did before his knock on the head. Cant say i have seen enough of Casillas to make judgement.
Thats the issue though: We dont see enough of the foreign keepers to make the judgement. Howard had a class season with Everton last year and was fundimental in getting them into Europe. Given is ok - but an average keeper can look awesome in a ***** team. None of the big four have ever taken an interest even though over the past 5 years they have all had keeper problems. That speaks volumes for me. Hes in the Sorenson league for me.
Given is far better than you give him credit for CURRENTLY better than Van Der Sar and definitely Tim Howard... as for Cudicini, well he never even plays first team football. As D/T says, Given loves it at Newcastle and has turned clubs down over the last few years. To suggest he's 'average' is very harsh.
Im with you on this matter Albatross. When watching Barnsley during his reign (barring the promotion season) I have been so nervous when the ball is in and around our area, mainly the flanks. I shouldn't be feeling like that. A liability in my own opinion - although in the promotion season I thought he had really turned the corner. I am confident about Muller - even though i haven't seen him play. I really hope he doesn't let us down. Colgan would be a decent back-up for us at this level, but if he does leave, I would be extremely surprised to see a team in our league make him their number one. Im afraid he'll have to drop a league if he wants first team football. It's a real shame he's thrown his teddy out of the cot though - I thought he was more of a man than that.
I'd not go as far as saying "average" as I think he is a damn good keeper - but to say one of the top 5 in the world is a bit TOO high if you ask me. As Dan says, there are some in the Premiership better than him, such as Cech, Reina, Van Der Sar - and i'd put Howard above him as well. Maybe not Jaaskelainen though, nor Cudicini. David James' club form also makes him better imo. Then there's all those abroad.....
