Oh I don't know, I'll have to ask my Mam, be nice though! I don't know her side of the family too well as I was raised oop north like. Saying that, I've been down here so long I don't know the northern lot either. :( My Mam's Dad was called Humphrey or just 'Harry' really, and was well known in boxing circles. He was proper old school cockney, hard as nails.

It is an odd spelling of the surname which is usually 'Mundy'. I worked with a lad called Munday, Daniel - a great young painter, and I thought they might be some connection as he was from north London and of Irish descent like my Mam's family. He wasn't that interested and it ground to a halt, if there was a common ancestor I reckon it would have been back in Ireland.

Interesting thing I don't tell many people. Before marrying m Dad and moving north, my Mam was nanny to the children of Celia Johnson and the explorer Peter Fleming, brother of Ian. She was practically family and went everywhere with them, proper celebrity circles of the day!

Cheers, Paul. As you say, an unusual spelling of Munday.

Interesting to hear about your Mam and how she moved in celeb circles! Is that Ian Fleming as in James Bond (or am I showing my ignorance?).

Yes, not the nicest bloke you could meet apparently, according to my Mam. It was out in Epsom and they were ones for entertaining, she appeared to swoon a bit when talking about Trevor Howard. :D
