When we do get a better crowd or a bigger following away they have to contend with some reight ****, Part timers, glory Hunters, Tourists and this from those wanting larger crowds.

If just the regulars turned up to a big cup game, then again the stayaways as you call em would get they aren`t interested in a football club in Tarn.

They can`t win some of them and I sometimes wonder after reading on here, if they`d want a seat sat next to some posters.

By the way I`m a Season Ticket holder that has been to very few away games in recent years, I class myself as a part time supporter/customer.

    Like this.

I'm a part time supporter too really. I've got a season ticket and go to all the home games, league and cup, but I've been to just one away game this season: the big one at Man City.

All supporters are welcome at Oakwell for me, whether they go to two or three games a season or to every game. But I would urge everyone to come down to the next game because (despite what you may have seen against Man City) you'll never see a more hard working team. They really do make you feel proud. Watching Barnsley at the moment is a very enjoyable experience.

I think we can start by breaking down this 'us & them' divide between club and supporters. We are not 'playing into anyone's hands' as the title of this thread wrongly suggests. The objectives of the board and the fans is the same and that is a well supported, financially stable, competitive football club that plays a vital and active role in the local community.

If you speak to the people at the club you will realise their is a genuine will to attract supporters to Oakwell and provide an affordable, viable pricing structure and ticketing policy. It's not about making a quick profit or trying to pull a fast one on the fans. Our season/matchday ticket money is essential income for the club and has to be maintained as it pays the basic, though considerable running costs of the club. We don't pay players wages, it's daft to think we do. We pay the rent - however nominal, we pay the six figure annual electric bill, we pay the insurance on the stadium, the staff wages, security & policing, then there are the player's kits, equipment, medical bills etc - it goes on and on. All these vital expenditures that we take for granted, but without them Oakwell would not be able to open for business. These have to be met in all weathers, whether crowds are good or not. If we average an 8,000 gate as opposed to 12,000 these bills are exactly the same save for a bit of extra admin and stewarding. They simply have to be paid and the club have to generate that money somehow.

There will be a tipping point where a healthy crowd average would then start generating finance that could be allocated to the playing staff. Likewise, there will exist a critical point where the playing budget has to be reined in to subsidise operational costs, which is the situation I believe we are in now. There is only one way to remedy that.

You should be a happybrewer with ideas like this!!

The exit stewards could give the papers away as people leave. Maybe include a refreshments voucher and some editorial about the club, the team, the fans etc.
The Paper gets a boost of a few thousand in circulation as a result.

Add this to WatfordTykes list of ideas and Mr C and Merde Tete's efforts and the club are starting to get some fresh input - I guess it's then up to them to take the punt and try some of these.

If it was up to me I would concentrate promotional efforts on the youngsters/teenagers

I am one of the missing fans but I'm thinking of attending the Leicester game. :)

How much will it cost me ?
