I think it was an anomaly imho. That and Rotherham the only games I felt like we had a clue. I do think you're right, but when the relationship between coach and board goes then only one of them is gonna win.
https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/31679/hourihane-given-permanent-reds-head-coach-job The predictable cheap option. Announced so soon after Warne joined MK Dons makes me think he turned us down so we've announced our second choice. I hope he's a massive success and ends up being as well thought of as Norman Rimmington one day. But this is why I was glad Redders never got our top job. Seeing an all time favourite you really hope they don't fail. He now needs huge support in the transfer market, with targets in as soon as possible.
Conor is worth giving a chance. If you don't like it just hang around a few months and if things go pear shaped we'll be looking for another coach. At least he's clearly up for it and he is a leader. Good luck fella.
Happy with that. He was a very popular player with us (eventually). Played at a higher level than the vast majority of our previous managers, international to boot. No doubt established good contacts and connections in the game. I for one hope to have seen the end of the bleak, turgid football of recent times. Interested to know who the underwhelmed would have appointed.
By the same token, he had Pines and McCarthy when we won a few in January. Every manager will miss players here and there, unless you’re the luckiest football club on the planet. Injuries and suspension around the new year are commonplace. Roberts missed three because of a red, in a defeat at Wycombe. Earl played all of his latter games barring Blackpool, and Robbo played that and Charlton. I don’t think your ‘keeper point is relevant. The bloke talked about Slonina like we’d got a world beater, and he didn’t like Killip who was our best goalie when picked. Conor has given a complete novice the gloves. Definitely agree with you on the squad’s quality. I always said it was a playoffs at best group, but just as likely to finish 12th if the coach wasn’t up to it. And we were 10th when he got the chop. He did an alright job with the tools at his disposal, that weren’t improved upon in January, I agree with you on that too. I’ll never call for anyone’s head, but I didn’t disagree with his dismissal when the decision was made. As said, his demeanour and converse was dressed in red flags. I’m sure he’ll rebuild in the division below or non league again. I don’t think the club scapegoated him. Had he remained in charge, I doubt we’d have garnered more points than we have under Conor, and the mood would be horrendous. But we’ll never know. It’s gone now. Time to move on, look forward to this new chapter.
Happy Easter Folks I my opinion it's certainly a Good Friday in Barnsley with this News. No doubt many would have woken up, questioned it and said you can't Adam and Eve it, can you, they've gone for the Cheap option, again, and are just egging us on. Whilst I know I can rabbit (regards talking, I'm past my prime for the other, although theres still a good tune to be had occasionally on an old fiddle ) Like I've said previously, get rid of the dead wood, fetch through a few more academy lads, and let the new broom have a clean sweep. Lets get the battling Barnsley back. So in my book its Congratulations on getting the job Conor, all the very best Let's hope the board room, can keep up and match your ambition and drive. For those doubting Thomas's amongst us Luke 8.14 It could have been worse it could have been APPLEton At least you can Cross him off the list. Could we be looking towards the resurrection of BFC or should we start playing the devil's advocate and say, the board will get crucified for sure if it doesnt work out. Happy Easter You Reds
I have heard murmurs that Warne was offered the job at the end of the season, & he was also interviewed for the Huddersfield job, but both clubs behind the scenes issues is what put him off & he opted for Mk Dons instead.
He took Phillips and Humphrys off on the hour, at 3-0 up. Lincoln put three strikers on just before that, including James Collins. They pulled one back, then one of the subs, Benson set Watters through for 4-1. It was all Lincoln for the last 15 minutes (as it’s been so often this season) and he took DKD and Gent (injured?) off with 8 minutes left, then we conceded two more in the remaining minutes. We definitely did look decent in the first half but it was terrifying how dominant Lincoln were second half, they could easily have won it. It was a common theme, regardless of personnel, all season under Clarke. We beat Wrexham when for 45 minutes we sat in and watched them miss chance after chance. Many other games like that. Penned in, trying - and failing - to defend a lead. Awful to see. As for other diabolical games, Orient 4-0 stands out. Stevenage home and away. Mansfield opening day. Huddersfield away (the first signs of his turn in demeanour and blaming everyone else). We will never agree on this one pal.
One good game?!? Oh well I suppose we’d struggle to afford or influence a decent established manager. Especially as we sell our Crown Jewels again in the summer. Very underwhelming, and a statement of intent from the board. I do like Connor, but he needs more experience imho.
That probably explains it. I managed to avoid the Leyton Orient game. One of my better decisions. Someone who I normally go with left early that day & I’ve never known them leave a game early in 30+ years so it must have been bad.
It was an embarrassment. Sure we conceded the same goal about three times. I don’t even think Orient were up to much. They just wanted it more. And I’ve felt that too many times this season. Even in Conor’s first game, Mansfield looked up for it and we didn’t, yet they’d not won in 400 years.
Correct, not against him getting the role but has he done enough thus far??? What I don’t want to happen is no change, Sormaz, Stead, Devaney and a few more need to be gone
I was there, probably the worse game at home I’ve seen since the days of the Swedish PE teacher. Absolutely abject.
You'd look defeated if one of your staff was been openly earmarked for your position. Absolutely outrageous the way things have played out. I can only hope Clarke got a decent pay off.
Didn’t really expect anything else, apart from the timing. Thought maybe he’d be announced in the summer, but I’m sure we have one eye on ticket sales, I’m not sure why anyone would expect us to bring in anyone with a wealth of experience or success. There’s little in our recent history to suggest we’d go down that route. Conor knows the current players well, which is a plus over some new guy coming in over the summer. I look forward to seeing who stays and goes and what he’s got to go with next season.
Who are the other coaches DOF has bullied? Collins and Clarke played their style of football. The only directive I've seen from the board is that they want high pressing attacking entertaining football that the supporters want.Last Saturday we saw a performence that I Imagine we all want to see.Long may it continue.
