I used a privatised health service in Germany and in Canada for years

and they were far superior to the NHS.

great post a sentiment mosly echoed by me.

As for a credible alternative, there isnt one but we wont know David Camerons hand unless Brown calls a general election, which wont happen for another two years.

    RE: message for BRF

Cheers for the advice. Unfortunately I broke my back tooth two days and needed a dentist pretty quick. Can have one as soon as you like you pay, but you have to wait in pain otherwise. So I booked a private one and paid, which I could just about afford to do in an emergency, but not regularly. I live in Cambridgeshire and NHS dentists are like rocking horse **** down here. lol

    Thanks again. (Y)

    Nah

Free NHS is a myth, we just pay for it by taxation. I'd rather have less tax and be able to use the money to spend on health insurance of my choice (i.e. the cheapest), either that or I'd like to be able to afford private health care and claim tax back because I'm not going to use the NHS.

    Never going to happen though.

What do we have at the minute ?

    Postcode lottery.

If you are poor, but live in an area where the PCT decides it will pay for your particular treatment you're fine, if not, what do you do ? Pay ? Then you cannot 'opt back in' to the NHS.

Truly wealthy people like Labour MP's for example can pay. Can afford to pay twice. The poor sods left with no alternative have paid through income tax and NI, then they have to pay again. The system is broken, it's not short of money. Not when a PCT can appoint a PART TIME chairman on £78k a year.

Without the NHS I'd be dead

With a privatised system I'd be both unable to walk and dead as I wouldn't have been able to afford the treatment. NHS has got a lot of problems but it's still one thing that this country can be proud of.

    I'm glad you're alive

    Seriously.

But the system is crocked, and is unfair. It is not a NATIONAL Health Service.

Didn`t Gordon Brown introduce the 10p in the £ starting rate in 99 the lowest starting rate since 1963?
