well youse can all fook off. my statement was bland and didn't have an agenda. I had just not considered that we would get to watch the Wrexham story from close range. and I feel really good about the little teams that we competed with in the Jock Steele days. Teams like Wrexham, York City, Bradford PA, Workington, Torquay, Exeter, Hartlepool, Darlington, Donny, Barrow, Mansfield, Southport, Rochdale.
Just looked it up and a crowd of 4,500 when we played them Valentines Day 2004. Lost 1-0 with a team including Marlon Beresford, Dangerous Brian, Handyside, Craig Rocastle and Mark Stallard. Remember it well as told my new wife I was taking her abroad for a romantic getaway. Not sure she has forgiven me yet.....
And it would produce a slightly interesting statistic. We have never won at Wrexham and vice versa https://www.11v11.com/teams/barnsley/tab/opposingTeams/opposition/Wrexham/
They will poor money at it when they get to the championship and then implode because theirs bigger fish.
It's even 4 draws at each other's ground too. I remember the draw with them in 2003. They had a lad called Juan Ugarte playing for them, who was on a scoring streak of something like 7 goals in 3 games. The press at the time were linking him with Liverpool, as he was supposedly mates with Xabi Alonso. Then he practically fell off the face of the earth. Edit: I've actually just looked at his Wikipedia. He holds the record for the most goals scored by a single player in an away match in England, when he scored 5 goals in a 4-6 Wrexham victory over Hartlepool. He retired through injury just a couple of seasons after aged 27.
