I am genuinely so disappointed by anyone who in this day and age is religious. I am embarrassed for you.

Here's my conspiracy- why do they put so few of the best sweets in each brand? Midget gems and fruit pastilles fruit gums / fruit polos etc are always full of oranges and hardly have any red or black in. Is it like parcelling out sweety crack?

I'm an atheist but I will defend the religious beliefs of anyone provided they don't impinge on the rights of people who do not agree with them. I think that do otherwise would be akin to fundamentalism in a similar way that has debased Islam and also Christianity.

There is no religion that doesn't or hasn't impinged on human rights. Come on.

Religion is a bit of a medieval concept. Pretty sure that the only people that buy into it are the ones that have been brainwashed since childhood, or possibly later.

I didn't say that though. Where the rights of anyone are subjugated in the name of religion and they are frequently then that in my opinion is totally unacceptable. Perhaps I should have distinguished between religious beliefs and organised religion.

    Re: FAO Merde Tete...

Most of the impinging of human rights comes from the secular application or interpretation of religious texts which has more to do with the respective culture of the time and vested interests of whatever ruling interest creates them rather than the text itself. There are of course exceptions; most religious texts aren't great on equality of the sexes for instance. But lots of what is taught in the major religions is pretty moral and lovely from what I've seen.

Being quite a big fan of the beatles, it's something that has always intrigued me. I remember reading that some foreign scientists somewhere, examined the jawline of Paul Mccartney back then compared to now, analysing the shape of his skull and his jaw-line and concluded that it was 100% not the same person.

    To quote my username, spooky.

Glad you're enjoying it anyway, like you said, mind goes into overdrive thinking about it!

With regards to Jay's point re Iraq, I agree it's hardly an out there conspiracy theory. But we are told that we got involved with Iraq for other more acceptable reasons. So are you saying our politicians lie to us? ;)

Bang on, which is why I find Dawkins quite troubling sometimes. The vitriol he serves up to the fundamentalist loons who he interviews is well deserved, they are fair game. But Pilgrims to Lourdes? Uncomfortable.

    Re: FAO Merde Tete...

I do form my own opinions, but if a subject interests me I like to get as many different points of view as possible, especially ones I don't agree with. I think it's really important to stop your outlook on something being tunneled. I was an atheist before I read Dawkins and Hitchens and I still am now. However, that doesn't mean I'm not open to persuasion if any rational evidence to the contrary is presented. I just haven't found any as yet. Add that to having recently read A Brief History of Time and I feel that the theistic argument will need to produce something utterly astounding in order to persuade me that I am wrong.

Brilliant book Merde Tete, completely agree. Made me so angry though I had to read it way before going to bed or I couldn't sleep

This is way too weird. For some reason i started looking into the conspiracies of the September 11th attacks just a few days ago. Then this thread pops up! I'm a right trend setter

Don't go for them per se, but I did read a book on titanic once, which said that due to a sea trials smash on it's sister ship, it was swapped over as an insurance scam. All sorts of supporting evidence and quite compelling.
Would love to hear that one debunked.

Anyway, I think the whole Titanic thing was all a ploy to deflect from Barnsley's impending FA Cup glory!
