Think our rugby club used summat similar. It’s white box anyway, but they also tap summat on a smart phone

Yes we did, we got a SumUp card reader which works very well. We pay 1.7% commission on card sales, but we more than cover that by increased sales to cashless customers.

Which model did you get mate?

Also, in terms of getting the money from Sumup into your club’s bank account, do they just transfer it over as it comes in or collect it for you and do one big transaction? The whole point of us getting this is that we’re getting charged extortionate fees for making transfers into our account so we need to minimise the small transactions and have the aggregated.

I may have more questions the more i look into this.

We got the full Monty model with a built in SIM card and printer, so it can be used anywhere there's a mobile signal. With regards to payments, they are aggregated and you can choose (I think) whether they are transferred weekly or monthly. We get paid monthly but we get a statement weekly. The payments are credited after deducting the commission. It's worked very well for us, good luck.

We use Zettle on the Redfearns bar van. Its easy to get, easy to setup. You can put in drinks prices etc and use it like a till (although we just type in an ammount for speed). Needs a phone/tablet to work with it (they may also have stand alone terminals not sure)
The cost per transaction is pretty low and theres no monthly cost. Its amazing to see how the card payments split has changed over lockdown. It went from about 20% before lockdown to 60-70% by card after. They pay via paypal.

Edit just realised this is an old thread

It’s me that’s wanting one now for my cricket club so the comments are welcome.

Last season we just run a tab up each and transferred the money at the end of the day but the bank started charging us a fortune to do it so we’re looking at better options. Hopefully it will see an uptick in transactions too as more people buy stuff as they can do it on card.

In fact @Gally I have a question if you don’t mind. Can you have more than one phone linked to the card reader?

I've used sum up for a couple years with no issues. Make sure you get the Solo machine, No messing about with the phone, It's all in one. Still need a WiFi or 3g connection mind.

You can also send invoices/payment links with the app that comes with it

You can have two setup but I think the connection is only with one at a time or at least we have a few issues reconnecting the other phone at times.
