Mine too. It hacked me off that we went years with 1% at best pay increases but bonus payments at the top weren't affected - and these were people earning six and seven figure salaries.
It may not work, time will tell but like you I'm not convinced at this stage. The way tax credits work is that those on low wages get their income topped up by the credits so the more they are paid the less they need to top up their income. If there is a living wage (set by in IFS) then the lower threshold is removed as more people will be above it - wages will replace the credit.
I know how they work. But cuts are cuts, it will have an effect on people earning little, people will be worse off. If wages truly will replace credits there is no need to make cuts. It'll be a natural consequence of wages replacing credits.
This, with bells on. "The machinery of capitalism is oiled by the blood of the workers", to quote Homer Simpson.
If only that were true. Why do you think the likes of Murdoch try to control the media in the first place?
In all walks of life, from all angles people can try and persuade you or nudge you in a certain direction. There wouldn't be an advertising industry otherwise. They all try. Even on here! My point is that I do not think the daily paper holds a crucial sway. Perhaps I can be persuaded otherwise, though I doubt it.
The majority of the media won't allow him to get his message across Without putting their own spin on it. imho it's not so much that they are 'right wing' - they were mainly supportive of New Labour - it's that they abhor anyone who they can't influence and who goes against friendly policies to the very wealthy, multinational corporations, and a broadly pro EU policy - with particular regard to free movement of labour which drives down wages of those who Labour should be looking after. Corbyn for me is a true supporter of the workers - he's Euro sceptic which panics a lot in his party (and elsewhere) who have their eyes on nice jobs in Brussels later - see the Kinnocks and Mandelson for examples. He seems to get that the EU has just become another tool to keep the corporations thriving - get ready for TTIP - and the media owners and those in hoc to the corporations and the EU will not allow anything that threatens that to flourish. See how the Daily Mail targeted Farage. The hypocrites. Prepare for more ***** about his top button being undone and his un patriotic views. From those exiled in non dom status who pay no tax to the country they say they love more than Corbyn. They have It both ways too - Corbyn's humane approach to the refugee crisis will have him portrayed as pro mass immigration and yet another way he hates the British way of life. Trouble is - it'll work.
Re: The majority of the media won't allow him to get his message across bomb the ba.stards....who?....why everyone of course! hth
Maybe not that alone, but throw in repeated lies from political opponents over a long period of time and the public will, indeed, swallow any untruth you care to offer up. Fair play to the Tories, they kept at it with the 'blame Labour for the economic crisis' lies and managed to convince the public - an act of deception on the grandest of scales.
I didn't fall for it. Why? Because it happened all over the world and Labour couldn't possibly have had owt to do with problems elsewhere. It was the banks and financial markets that caused the crisis. Anyone who swallowed the blaming of Labour was a fool (or a tory).
The main message Labour had from election canvassing was that the public "didn't trust" them on the economy. I can vouch for that - I helped with a bit of doorstep & phone canvassing in the last week of the campaign and that was pretty much the first thing people mentioned.....even Labour voters! Smear campaigns sometimes work.
