Holidays have gone up ridiculously, they're basically ripping the **** out of us and l thought they would be desperate for the custom after COVID.

It also worth pointing out these stats, which I have no doubt have increased over the last 4 years:

In 2018–2020 there were approximately 11,619,000 individuals in the 65+ age cohort, of which 27% lived in a household with a total wealth above £1,000,000. This implies that there were approximately 3,137,000 individuals aged 65+ who lived in a household with a total wealth above £1,000,000 in 2018–2020.

In such as Spain (as an example) your money goes alot further, the weather is helluva lot better and it's only just over 2 hours away. I can see the appeal to alot of the 60+ year old brits. You've also got the reality of more and more people being able to do their job remotely.

This country offers up very little - you cant even make plans safe in the knowledge that the weather will hold out!

If you're feeling down, seeking help is essential @BarnsleyBomber. However, can we just take a minute to think about how absurd it is.

A working man, in a two-income family, is struggling to enjoy being alive at the moment with the way the Country is being run. A heck of a lot of people feel this way, myself included.

Perhaps going to the GP for them to dose you up on anti-depressants so you can cope with how sh*t our lives are being made by those incharge isn't the way forward. Perhaps if we look at the root cause of all this mental health stuff instead of trying to give pills to stop the symptoms we might actually get somewhere.

    Keep your head up folks.

The problem is holidaying in the UK costs a fortune too. You get ripped off either way.

It's a sad, sad situation and it's getting more absurd. I struggle to live within my means too. Boredom and spending money on crap doesn't help as when you've spent up you crave things you don't need.

It was more the anger and the no longer caring in the way he had previously that made me wonder. Rich people can get depressed too. A gp won't necessarily start him on anti depressants, there are other suggestions they can make.

About 18 months ago I made the very difficult decision to go back on continental shifts. This was done just to keep our heads above water.
It come at a personal cost to me but bills need paying.
We have cut back on a lot of stuff but it feels never ending.

I've mentioned this before on here, but the reason holidays feel more expensive is that the average wage in the UK was high for Europe. You could travel to countries with much lower averages and have a cheap trip.

That is no longer the case to the same extent. Other countries have now caught up, they now pay staff more and hotels have higher base outgoings equalling higher costs.

I forgot to add. I find it wierd that fuel payments are based on pensioners and not households.
£500 will cover almost all of my fuel Bill's for a third of the year. My house is well insulated.

One thing I would mention is that travel and holidays is something we've never been willing to compromise on. However, if you're flexible about where and when you go, you can still do it for very reasonable money. That sometimes involves flying a day or two before school ends or getting back after they return, but if pissing the school off results in saving several hundred quid, for me it's a price worth paying. We pretty much always fly on budget airlines and stay in private apartment rentals, as they're massively cheaper than hotels. I've not been on a package tour in my adult life. We often just buy cheap flights somewhere random that we've never been to before. A couple of years ago it was Mykonos for £30 with Wizz. Proceeded to s**t myself when I saw the price of the accommodation, as we were going for ten days. However, a little bit of research showed that we could jump on a ferry and go to the neighbouring island of Tinos instead. It's absolute paradise. Authentic, inexpensive, and not overrun by tourists. I think we paid €60 per night for a simple but clean hillside apartment just a bit set back from the beach with a beautiful terrace. One of the best holidays we've ever had. Flights for 3, accommodation and car hire for ten days came to well under £1000 for 3 of us, and that was in summer.

Where you based? If you can't get to see a GP I'd recommend visiting your nearest Andy's Man's club that meet on a Monday night.

Are those figures pure cash or are they taking property values as wealth?
