Perhaps you don't care about tradition and history, but, really what does "White Heart" mean? It doesn't mean owt whereas "White Hart" does have significance. Probably someone who thought "hee hee...look they missed the 'e' out of heart on the sign, bloody idiots!"

Haven't been round Barnsley for years so couldn't comment

Quite lucky here as we've got a wide range of bar - young and trendy , proper old fashion pubs and the typical big pub chain ones as well - Whetherspoons , Yate's etc

Because selling cheap crap at sky high prices to fools is easy

and nothing takes much thought or looking after. Keeping and selling decent beer is hard work.

Places selling good beer take a while to establish a regular clientele.

    Liverpool Red.............thats what I'm saying

OK, Liverpool is a big city and so is Sheffield and Leeds so there is bound to be more choice than Barnsley.
But surely Barnsley can have 2 or 3 decent boozers with character, good decor and a good atmosphere
Look at Sheffield there are the usual loud music pubs but theres absolutly loads of boozers with the old fashioned character, good decor and selling good beer. Surely in Barnsley there is room for 2 or 3 of this kind of boozer.
But there is absolutly nothing. 230,000 people and not one decent boozer.

Probably the best boozer in Barnsley is the Witherspoons at Wombwell. And thats a characterless modern(ish) building with a modern interior

...does decent food and is selling real ale - Timothy Taylor's Landlord and Bishop's Tipple at the minute. Decent atmosphere too.
