and the people of Barnsley redstar. we need those 3k stayaways back at the club. need to get back to minimum 10k home attendances. 7-8k week in week out, is not enough to compete
Agreed. The club need to start the ball rolling by not billing us as beating the bookies and believing like Flicker does...
Average home attendance this season is well over 10,000 so where's this 7-8K come from. Can't think of one attendance that was 7K.
Yes all that money with two new kit sales and ST sales to come amongst other fresh incomes. If Flicker isn't worth being given an extra 2 million in his budget to spend then nobody is.
Bristol 8088 Ipswich 8571 Peterborough 8319 Palace 8195 Cardiff 8227 Burnley 8610 Millwall 7844 Brighton 7869 It's not an attack Simon, it's a plea. Don't be so sensitive. We need bigger crowds at Oakwell, plain & simple.
Personally I think season ticket prices should be raised by about £50 on adult tickets I mean surely everyone would be prepared that bit extra to help the club? Pay on the gate fans have been expected to stomach increases.
I can see Middlesborough at least looking for a new manager as well as Doncaster and Blackburn who already have vacancies.
I think Sheffield United could be our main concern if they get over their play-off hoodoo and get promoted this year. I'm not sure that they would see Chris Morgan, with his lack of managerial experience, being the right man for the job in the Championship and they might be interested in picking up Flitcroft, given his record with us and the fact that there would be no compensation package to pay.
I think Flitcroft will be appointed manager Yesterday was a day of high emotions for all involved with Barnsley Football Club. Adrenalin was still pumping through everyone's veins, hours after the game had ended. I believe a new contract will be agreed (if it hasn't already been done verbally) once the main parties discuss the issues calmly and with cool heads.
Re: I think Flitcroft will be appointed manager tend to agree with your there lil. he has the relationship with PC. his stock has gone through the roof. he knows this and he knows his value. he's bang in order to make some demands. to be fair, the things he's referred to....st george's, spain, hotels, coach travel, have ALL been sanctioned by the Club. he's been backed in the market and spoke about how the board agreed to sanction any deals in the window i do get the impression though, that the stones thing really got under his skin. so he probably wants assurances that wont happen again. all that said, it's definitely not going to stop at least half a dozen far bigger clubs, wanting to talk to him. agreed, we need to act with cool heads. but we need to act fast
Bigger clubs Tend to try and placate their fans with names currently bigger than David Flitcroft when appointing a new manager. For me, he's been our best manager since Danny Wilson. However, he's only been a league manager for twenty games and, as such, lacks experience for now. Give him another twelve months at Barnsley and, provided we continue with our form, his stock will certainly be rising.
Re: Bigger clubs I got the impression he wasn't appealing for millions to spend,he'll be well aware as FFP rules bite there will be a lot of Clubs tightening their belts..as much as anything else it seemed to be for a better crack of the whip for Mellon and Scott and the ability to send players to the St Georges rehab facility. PC and the Don would be extremely unwise not to grasp this possibly once in a lifetime chance to employ a man who has proved he can do the job without megabucks,a man who, had the results he has managed been replicated over the full season would have put us in the play offs,a man who has the obvious respect of the playing squad, and the adoration(is not too strong a word)of the paying customers. The silence of the tills on season ticket renewal day will be deafening if Flitcroft is allowed by the negligence of the Club to move on.
Re: Correct do the FFP rules actually kick in this year? It feels like there's just been us playing to them for 2 years or whatever
This is a largely enjoyable and reasoned thread The points I would make are as follows: 1. Flicker has previously said he wants the job, and as BigLil points out, he was interviewed yesterday when highly emotional. I would be very surprised if after the time he has at Barnsley in the last 4 months, and the relationship he has built with the fans he'd have any desire to leave. 2. I suspect his comments were to make the Board realise he has ambitions higher than fighting relegation every season, and hence as others have pointed out, will want some assurance on investment into the squad and contracts. The Stones deal did anger him, and I think the fact we have some key players out of contract that could leave has added to this. The way Don talked, it seemed he thought it was a formality that Flicker will sign, and he will want to make clear what he wants first which I agree with. 3. Despite previous errors, misjudgements and shortcomings on occasion, I don't think Patrick and Don will be daft enough to let Flicker slip away by being over prudent and unambitious. It would be suicidal. The club's fans are finally back on side and I really think if Flicker keeps the job and we sign a few decent players that crowds next season could rise a bit. If the Board fail to keep Flitcroft after what he's done, there'll be utter anarchy. So I'm confident he'll stay, but that won't stop me worrying till it's done, as nothing's ever certain in football.
