no point in having a contract or unions any more in this council....

set the presedance last year with the car milage thingy...

although it was something I agreed with, the manor in which they did it is why I vited against (basically sacking everyone and then re-instating) set a presedance on anything that the union may balk at.

so from now on its simple.

accept it, or we sack you and re-engage you and you have no choice or you have lost your job alltogether

Where the hell do you go with that.

get ready for the next one....

one of the reasons they did it was something to do with length of service being discriminatory in wages etc...

but think on, what else is linked to length of service....

get ready for your holidays to be slashed now!

although I am amazed no one else has mentioned this

or should I keep my gob shut

Do you think many will leave?

and if they do, do you think they will be replaced or not to save even more money

I hope they don't do away with the rat catchers, as i've reported a load of rats up near Poggy between West Rd and Stock Lane.

RE: Do you think many will leave?

They just get agency workers in & treat them better than full time employees.

Thats how it feels down at Smithies anyway

    EU Targets

The whole drive to bring recycling to the doorstep collection service is underpinned by EU laws limiting how much rubbish goes to landfill.

Unfortunately, this is measured by mass, not by volume nor biodegradability, of waste collected. Plastic is not very dense, therefore a high volume collected doesn't weigh much. This is a pity on many counts. Firstly, plastic waste is the least biodegradable of all recyclable refuse and so, arguably the most important to recycle. Secondly, I seem to chuck out numerous plastic bottles every week but only one or two jars and a handful of tins, so I could actually use a service for plastics. Finally it is a great shame they do not recycle plastic simply for the raw materials - how else do they hope to provide every UK household with the 5 x 150-litre refuse containers they seem to think we need to collect everything else in?!

Such a pity this, like everything else these days, seems to be more about hitting targets than about doing a proper job.
