Great win. Nearly there, promotion from where we were after the first block of games would be some achievement.

Does anyone know the various permutations for us to secure promotion irrespective of the Middlesex result? I believe they’ve changed how you score points in recent years and don’t really know how it works anymore!

I believe we are up anyway as long as we avoid defeat?

There are quite a few permutations but many of them will fall away at the end of Day 1. General summary is:

    - We are 15 points ahead of Middlesex
    - There's a slight possibility that we could get battered (0 points) and Middlesex get promoted with a max-bonus points draw (16 points). This is unlikely.
    - We should be promoted with a draw (8 points) assuming that play takes place. We could miss out on promotion due to a downpour.
    - We need to get 10 points to make sure that they can't get promoted ahead of us. A draw and a couple of bonus points would do the trick even if Middlesex win.
    - If we win, we are up.
    - There are obviously more permutations with deductions/slow over rate etc

It's unlikely that Middlesex will win with full bonus points unless Sussex roll over and die. It's also unlikely that we would lose with 0 bonus points. Everything will rest on Day 1 and 2, if we get a good haul of bonus points then it really turns up the pressure on Middlesex. I reckon if we get 6, we should be home and hosed and the result becomes irrelevant - Middlesex haven't been great at picking up bonus points (particularly batting) so unlikely they will get a maximum. We actually have the same playing record so it's our accumulation of the bonus points that has made the difference.

Looks like Leeds and Hove are both showing a good chance of some rain at the moment for Thursday.

If we win the toss we will choose to bat and then back ourselves to get maximum batting points on the fresh pitch.

The forecast all over the country tomorrow looks a wipeout. Then Middlesex would only have three days to get lots of runs on the board as well as twenty wickets at Hove. Not even Yorkshire could blow promotion if tomorrow has no play at either game....

It's Yorkshire, of course we can blow it!

I've written off today and cancelled my leave, hoping to ho at least Fri/Sat to show my support for the lads and, fingers crossed, celebrate promotion.

The current latest at both games. Yorkshire a bit slow at a further update.

    Stumps for the day.

New contract for Dom Bess though, which is great news.

And Gorgeous George got his first team cap.

Stumps on both games. I’m about 10 minutes from Hove and we’re due to get rain tomorrow too before it brightens up in the afternoon.

I think the only threat to Yorks is going to be a contrived finish across Friday afternoon and Saturday in Sussex and no play in the Northants game.

Torrential rain overnight in Hove and some showers this morning (but stopped now). It must be a very wet outfield but probably some chance of play this afternoon.

No play before lunch for Yorkshire.

Abandoned for the day making their chances of winning and passing us almost zero. Unless Sussex contrive an artificial result to let Middlesex win. Surely not though.
