Good article by David Hopps on CricInfo: 'Joe Root puts golf before Yorkshire, in symptom of system in crisis' Link
I’ve a bit of a problem with the article. Joe Root didn’t put golf before Yorkshire. His employer the ECB allowed him to. It’s a big difference.
I’ve just been informed by a Yorkshire member that Root was told a few weeks ago by the ECB to take a rest from cricket. He then agreed to play in the Dunhill Masters for charity. Why else would he have a photo with Piers Morgan and KP ?
The three month gap between the last test of our summer and the first test in Pakistan not a big enough rest if he plays for Yorkshire. If he had played the Glous match and we'd won it he wouldn't have been needed for the last game. It could have been a played until we hopefully stay up basis.
Probably more like forced him to, than allowed him to. For some reason, the ECB seem to feel like there's nothing worse for a cricketer than playing cricket.
Nope. Pope and Foakes made themselves available for selection as did Broad for Notts. Root simply didn't fancy it...
