Or they had plans to build a stadium next Oakwell with a hotel / casino attached on the current site , because that’s what Chien Lees other business interests have been , hotels leisure complex and sports teams . Or they might be secret Sheffield Wednesday fans and hell bent on sending us to Lancashire . Or they are an investment group sold an idea by a very clever businessman based on developing young players and making a modest return with the future possibility of striking Premiership gold
Which makes it even more strange as the council haven’t alluded to it in their statement either. There’s nothing in their statement to suggest a third party has recently exercised their right to purchase Oakwell. Therefore, it would be great to establish what the F**k is going on.
To be fair though it’s hardly unusual for business transactions to be funded by loans. A billionaire is highly unlikely to fund anything with their own money due to the associated risks. Not many ‘billionaires’ would have a bank balance of a billion either. Wealth is estimated based on assets and the value of company stocks and shares that they own. Oh, and a billion in financial terms is ‘only’ 1000 million, so not quite as much as some people think if you’re using long scale.
Which is fine however they have shown no signs of wanting to really invest in Barnsley FC, new stadia etc, if this dick waving about moving the football team elsewhere has any traction whatsoever that is they seem content however to go and buy other smaller clubs in Belgium and Scotland to add to their ‘loan to buy’ football club portfolio. These owners are Totally baffling to me, if I were a business man with their supposed acumen then I’m sure there are far more lucrative business opportunities out there to invest in. My only thoughts are they are crossing all fingers and toes and praying one of their small loan investments on the scale of things, by a stroke of massive luck does the unthinkable like we did in 97 and gets into the top league so they can flog us and make a tidy profit.
