I never once suggested a prison or anything of the sort. I did however suggest using our empty hotels to allow elderly people to move into where they would have all their wants and needs catered for in as safe an environment as possible rather than them being sat at home alone **** scared about where they're going to get food from without any contact but I don't think that's 'granny gulag'.

I'm very sorry for your loss, I'd never heard of mental health problems being on the list of things considered a pre existing medical condition when it came to covid. That's quite worrying to hear as a year of restrictions has increased massively the amount of otherwise healthy people who will now be at an increased risk due to the top it has taken on the nation's mental health.

    Disingenuous.
not candid or sincere, typically by pretending that one knows less about something than one really does.

So yes I can mean lead to lying and certainly not truthful. What I was suggesting was that the content of the OP was trying to lead is to believe that a rare occurrence was a common one and that simply isn't the case.

The whole thing makes zero sense at all. Only leave the home for essential reasons but click and collect is available at 100s of none essential shops.
I can go to drive through takeaways, I can go any buy any number of none essential items. I can have tradesmen in my home carrying out none essential work but professional haircuts are illegal.
Businesses forced to close all over the country but Asda and Tesco are free to sell anything they like. I've been in Asda at Wakefield and the clothes section looks like Meadowhall on normal Saturday afternoon.
One thing I can 100%, agree with those who want tougher lockdowns is that if you are going to lockdown it at least needs to make sense.

I don't understand how M&S is allowed to open their full store under the rules you stated. They have very clear and distinct food halls.

Clothes are a weird one because it isn't safe to allow people to go browsing clothing shops, feeling the material, trying them on etc. especially when 99.9% of the time it will be people buying something they absolutely do not need, however, it is illegal to be naked so somewhere should be allowed to sell them for those who can't go online and somehow have no clothes (e.g. kicked out/ran out of home with only whatever they were wearing; house burned down with everything inside - as happened to a child at my last school; pregnant women whose clothes no longer fit; new born babies and kids who grow rapidly etc.) Obviously, supermarkets do have that covered but I'm not sure why they can but others can't. I've just today had to order some new bras online from M&S as the only ones that fit look like they are going to snap in the middle any second (I have had this happen before so it is a very real concern and I've put it off months longer than I should have). I've got a feeling that I'd almost certainly get sent home from work with a warning if I went to a secondary school without a bra on. I've never ordered bras online before, and buying them instore is always a million time harder than it looks, so who knows how it will turn out but needs must.

What is and isn't essential depends entirely on your circumstances. If your shoelaces break it's essential you get some shoelaces. If your shoes wear out completely it's essential you get some shoes. If your kid's pen runs dry it's essential you get them a pen. If he fills his exercise book then it's essential you get him some paper. Broken can opener / frying pan / refrigerator /window / mattress / zip on your trousers / lock on your door / screen on your phone / mouse for your computer and a million other examples could all be essential to feed your family / keep them warm and safe / do your job.

Absolutely mental that people are waiting until they can't breathe before getting proper medical intervention.
There's no wonder so many are dying

It's very possible that he deteriorated quickly given his advanced years. Hope he pulls through.
