Somebody will buy him for 500,000 without a doubt. That's a peanuts fee and is virtually a risk free investment at championship level. Davies can finish and that's a proper skill. Don't forget he is playing in a poor side here....
I do rate him, I think he is the best striker at the club and the best we've had for a few years but I am convinced we will sell him in Jan or lose him for nothing in the summer. I would be happy with signing Tudgay to replace him as I think he has genuine championship quality in him too.
If selling Craig Davies means we can keep Tudgay and Busaky then do it - my original point is I can't really see him being at the top of anyone's January shopping list
"Unless Davies starts scoring more regularly he will slip well down the Championship scoring tables" And in other news, if I lose my job, I'll be skint.
I wouldn't swap Davies for Tudgay & Buzsaky, and I think people are being incredibly optimistic about the kind of fees that they think our club is capable of getting for players.
If we sell either Davies or Steele for less than £2m (each) in the predicament we are in, knowing that we are going to be in a scrap between now and May with them, knowing their importance to the team and the effect a sale would have, knowing that selling in January does not work then I am not going again with the current lot in charge, end of story. I know we won't get offered £2m but this must be our stance; they''re not leaving unless silly money is offered. The same stance should have been made with Vaz Te but wasn't. I don't accept this crap about Vaz Te "wanting to leave". Of course he did, tell him to f**k off, he was contracted to us and we should have told him unless West Ham were prepared to pay what he was worth, he wasn't leaving. Same approach needs to be taken this season. Anything otherwise smacks of amateurism.
I get what you're saying, but will you be discounting hat-tricks scored by other players in the goal scoring chart? What about penalties too? That would be a fairer comparison.
Of course he would. He'd score a **** load more if we got crosses in and had some shots, he doesn't even get the chance for rebounds off the keeper/woodwork, because we never fooking shoot.
Re: I see history is repeating itself Lets hope that history doesn't repeat itself exactly though, as for the last couple of years our leading scorer at the end of the season had left in January too!
I appreciate that but there didn't seem to be a debate offered. The tone of your post wasn't one of wanting to debate rather than just telling my opinion is only because we might sell him. Not the case. He is a decent striker, and we haven't had many, but if he isn't going to sign a new contract we need to sell him and get Tudgay in as a cheaper, but very able replacement. That doesn't make me a part of any intelligentsia. I am of the opinion that Craig is a Championship striker, but maybe not the PL bound player that some may think he is.
Again, I stand by what I've posted All of a sudden, we're discounting the number of goals he scored, simply because he had the audacity to get four in one match so that somehow exaggerates the tally. Then we can discount the one at Brighton, as that was from the penalty spot and, apparently they don't count either. Then we have to count the number of games he's scored in, whilst conveniently ignoring the games where he has led the line well with little or no support, but not managed to score. None of which were mentioned earlier. I'm pointing out there's an alternative viewpoint to others posted on the thread and highlighting that exactly the same thing has happened previously with other players.
You're mentioning stuff that hasn't even been mentioned. Brighton? Leading the line? Wont be missed? Not as good as he thinks? Mine, and I believe Manilto's post (although his L1 comment was way off), was about Davies being snapped up by clubs higher up, and how we would replace his goals. He isn't prolific so clubs higher may not see him in the way we see him, and I think Tudgay would be a decent replacement. I don't feel that opinion is negative or derisory in any way.
My opinion on Davies is that he isn't as good as some/most Barnsley fans seem to think he is but I haven't really seen any evidence at all to suggest that HE thinks he is this brilliant all singing, all dancing player. The only time i've thought that with a Barnsley player in recent years is butterfield who I feel was big headed, believed his own hype and thought he was far too good for a club like Barnsley. Davies has poor control in my opinion and has an amazing ability to miss easy chances and it is this that stops him from being a top top striker but he also has a great ability to pull a goal out of nowhere and in my opinion he never stops running (unless hill has stuck him out wide and he's got a bit pissed off) and for that reason I think he's more than good enough to be a first teamer for us or a useful squad player at a higher club than ours. Not a first choice striker at a top club but certainly good enough for being one of several strikers they have.
