We were too easily opened up through the centre of defence 3 or 4 clear headers to say he had a great game. He looked composed on the ball but his principal job is to stop the opposition and a better team than Yeovil would have notched four or five. And I say that as someone who rates him
Yes, there were 4 players to blame. M'Voto, Perkins, McCourt and Cranie. 3 of those took stick, the rest didn't. No one ever answered my question as to why he was 5 yards deeper than the rest of the defence, marking Zigic who had gone into a clear offside position, therefore leaving a nice gap for their player to hit the ball through.
Perhaps not, mate But as I said, in my opinion Cranie is our best, most consistent defender. You think differently, which is fair enough.
Re: Perhaps not, mate Well most people seem to disagree with me. However I just don't get why everyone rates him so highly, he's captain and main centre back and we've conceded 1.75 goals per game in the league games we've played in.
Re: Perhaps not, mate Aye because he's got some right ***** around him. Cranie's the only defender we have got who would be wanted by other championship clubs. Of the ones who play that is.
He has to accept responsibility When he's made mistakes, along with the collective responsibility in the games where he's featured, that's only fair. But when the likes of Wiseman, Butland, M'voto, Ramage, O'Brien, Steele & Kennedy have all made individual errors resulting in us conceding goals, they cannot delegate their responsibility & blame in his direction. In my opinion, he is a good Championship, and our best, defender.
Re: Perhaps not, mate I also think when he came back after injury he was part of our defensive problems but since Flicker went to concentrating on the defensive side he has found his form and been consistent for sometime now, would just like to see him carry the ball out of defence a little more than he does, but then maybe he`s instructed not to do that.
Re: He has to accept responsibility But Cranie has made mistakes as well, not marking at Ipswich for example. As a collective group they are all over the place, especially yesterday and Cranie is a big part of that group. Personally I think Wiseman is our best defender these days.
I didn't say he hadn't made mistakes I also said he has to shoulder his share of the collective responsibility when the defence as a unit fails. You believe Wiseman is our best defender, I think it's Cranie. I'm not criticising anyone for them holding a differing viewpoint to me or failing to agree with my opinion. I'm just stating my views and, hopefully, doing so in a mature, respectful manner.
Re: I didn't say he hadn't made mistakes I'm not having a go at you mate, the point of the forum is for a debate, which I don't mind doing as long as you accept that I'm right
Re: I didn't say he hadn't made mistakes I think you have made some very good points in this thread, but then you show that you know absolutely nowt about football by saying Wiseman is our best defender !!!! He is still not a good defender, he cannot mark a man and cannot head a ball or pass to a teamate more than 5 yards away, but he CAN get forwards very fast , but then is out of position and ambles back.
Along with Wiseman, he's been one of our most consistent performers this season. Didn't do much wrong for me again yesterday. Was defending for 3 really as Ramage was dire and Kennedy was missing
Re: I didn't say he hadn't made mistakes You don't need to be able to defend to be our best defender mate. Never said he was actually any good, he's just less **** than the rest!
