Yeah it's just one tournament too far. Reminds me of Spain when they won 2 World Cups and a Euros, then got battered in the 4th tourney.

It happens. Time to invest in youth.

Decided to lose by 100 runs, out the world cup with a whimper!

That was then, this is now. They’ve been atrocious from first ball to last. I suspect they will be the first to agree.

Absolute garbage, regardless of whether its against a difficult team and one of the favourites etc.
There are NO excuses for such a poor set of performances in this World cup. Will they/we even get a single consolation win in the last few games ?.

A deal rubber and they decided to keep playing an ageing team of over 30s who won't be around in four years time. Should have played Brooks, Curran and Atkinson.

Trusted the older generation too much, but I don’t recall any of us asking for different players a month ago. Time for a major overhaul and give the next generation their turn. 7 years of transforming England’s white ball cricket won’t be tarnished by a few bad weeks in India for me.

As long as the 16.4 over game dominates in august and the 50 over cup is relegated to a 2nd xii competition then this will be the result. Maybe the 50 over game is dying anyways if so, ECB are turning the knife.

There's more to cricket than just batting, as everybody knows of course.
And that's why Ive never been keen on the T-20, which is just a short bat-a-thon knockabout.
Ive wondered if they could try merging this with the 50 over, One day game. Maybe make it a T-30 or 35 ?.

I’ve always thought 40/40 would be the best format.

Nobody was asking for different players a month ago, but one issue has been that there has been so little ODI cricket played, with the strongest team played, we've not had a chance to find any clues for how bad the decline might've been.

Add to that, the loss of Plunkett as a middle overs wicket taker, and Stokes as a potential 6th bowler has led to a team where individuals have no clue of their roles.

Brook admitted he was struggling with the format due to so little experience.

I believe he'd only had five innings of 50 overs cricket coming into the tournament!!!

I can’t disagree with that. We’ve assumed these players are still good enough without actually checking the thesis out.

Another win for Afghanistan. Netherlands next up. If they win that as well then one win from the tough final two games Australia and South Africa should be enough for the semi finals.

England need to finish in the top 7 in order to qualify for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan. The top 7 plus the hosts qualify so there's still something riding on the last 3 games, as well as the wooden spoon.

Likely that 8th will do as Pakistan will surely finish in the top 8 themselves.

Assuming we beat Netherlands ( ! ) we’ll need to win against Australia or Pakistan

Yeah think we need at least 2 from 3 now which looks a challenge at the minute. We really could do with qualifying though as it will be a massive stepping stone for the next generation before the 2027 world cup.

SA play NZ tomorrow morning and, theoretically it should be a good game as they look like the 2 main challengers to India taking the title.
