Treadbeare or not, you asked for out of position players. I've given 2 just from Bournemouth game. He could have stayed 343, put styles to the left and put halme or moon in CM, with the other at CB. He didn't. He went 4 at the back, and put 2 out of position. I'd love to see a fully fit squad,. I still have no confidence yet, that it would match a first 11 to the majority on here. Is what it is, but let's see how it lines up tomorrow. We never really have a decent game against Stoke, so God knows how tomorrow will be. I'm not throwing him under a bus, but I'm watching. I will happily hold my hands up and eat that humble pie if it works out, at the moment, I don't even need to get out a spoon in case.
But in that example I don’t think playing a player at RB in a change of shape, who’s played RB before for us, is some bizarre out of position choice. He should be more than comfortable for one half if it’s deemed necessary, and let’s not forget that Styles regularly repeats that his favourite position is CM so Sibbick’s comments are similar. Plenty of right-sided CBS that can drop to RB or vice versa. It was only the other day there was a discussion/suggestion about Sibbick challenging Brittain for RWB. Styles at LB is a bit nuts though. But again, when our only left back was basically stretchered off. It’s not like he started with that formation which would be more worrying.
This is the one area where I do feel Schopp can be criticised, certainly for Saturday. I’d like to see us look well organised and difficult to beat, and we’ve conceded a lot of chances this season. Then we have a base to build on when players come back. That and a decent reaction if we concede, which has been lacking in the last few games.
I am listening to ya, I just know Toby admits himself he's not an out and out RB. He was put in that position plenty of times in his first spell with us. And look where that got him. And it made no surprise when he was playing a position more comfortable to him, he is like a new signing. I hope he's not forced into that RB regularly, cos he clearly isn't suited or happy with it. Like I say, I know MS hands are tied quite a bit right now, so I'm more than willing to give him the benefit of doubt, he's a long way off a fully fit squad, he's kept to a 343 when possible (even though he never used it previously) and said he didn't want to introduce too many changes at once. On the one hand, that can be admiral, on the other, I see it as get players used to playing differently, and then, change formation to what he wants and be different again. A manager had his preferred style of formation and play. Just do it. Don't fanny about. Then we know for real if your good enough or not. I suppose that's my frustration, is that he's persisting with something he's not really familiar with himself.
He’s only had one job prior to us. It’s perfectly plausible, especially with the team that he was coaching, that he’s a believer in different systems/formations for different squads. With only the style and application being consistent. You’ve also go to assess whether your precious formation and setup will work in the league you’re now in, that’s a totally different level and style in itself. All speculation of course, which is why I think the knives being out is so ridiculous. If we’re still bottom six come mid November with no green shoots of recovery then I would understand the levels of anger and frustration.
I can defend many things but Oduor in a front 3 us not one of them. Styles would be way ahead of him in that role not to mention our actual forwards like Cole.
Just realised, I but my "February" comment in a different thread So, I'd say my knives are in the drawer. But I've an eye on them for Feb. Few concerns, which can be expected in a new role/League. That's a fair comment. I just see so many stendle/struber championship decisions at the moment, I'd rather not be in a position we are constantly looking over our shoulders. Let's hope in a few weeks, we get more back, more squad integration, and on the right path. I believe we have the players to do it, even if it doesn't look like it right now. Just hope that moral isn't hit too hard whilst everyone gets fit/ready...
Needs to pick himself up off the floor, stop moaning at the officials and put some effort in then. At least that would be a start!
The system never changed. It's another myth. Gomes came on for Ben, went into midfield and Stylesy went back to LWB. As anyone with a brain would have done. It's like when Struber had Jordan Williams as left-sided centre back in a back three, there were folk on here asking why Jordan Williams was playing left back.
He's certainly not a Championship quality striker that's for sure. Like a few at Oakwell his best position would probably at a club in L1 or L2
I zoned out second half watching golf/Ronaldo so was taking what’s being said here as gospel. Thanks for clarifying
Friendly reminder we've played 6 games. Against teams in the league who are currently occupying positions 2, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 12. Yes it's not been the best start in the world, but there are some fantastic judges on here if you can condem us in the third week in September.
Didn't he pretty much always feature for Leeds further forward? Sure I've read he wasn't ever really a 'natural' full back/wing back
No other midfielders (or people who could possibly do a job there) on the bench if I remember rightly. Didn't Palmer go off with a knock and both him a Benson had been booked? Also didn't Benson (I think) go off with only 10 to go? Not saying I was happy with the changes but had his hands tied to an extent
It’s true but if we’re using league positions as an excuse and accepting 10th and 12th as a reason not to win games, it’s time to pack up and go home. I know it’s only a form table but we can’t be expected to beat the bottom three all season and that’s it. This squad bar a couple finished fifth last season. Despite a post on Saturday evening, I don’t want Schopp out. I’m claiming the radical change in system from last season is a joke but I’m more than happy to give him time. The board was the one who appointed him and his ideas. And to be fair, his teams selections have been baffling. Clarke Odour is a Championship player, not a Championship forward.
Thanks for supplying the background Thrappo. So many seem to slam the manager either without understanding, or wilfully ignoring the context. A huge lack of joined up, rational thinking on display, although of course football is an emotive subject. Saturday was *****. Let's hope for a QPR first half-esque performance tonight and something to get behind.
I'm not sure playing Ismael's style without Dike, Morris or Mowatt would be particularly successful. We didn't have Dike and Morris early last season, but Mowatt and James dominated the midfield in a lot of games. Think it would be asking too much of the young midfielders we have this season, to win every second ball that our front three don't win. In what position do you think Odour is a Championship player?
