I think that's a fair point. It just highlights our failure to replace Butterfield. And that wasn't just in terms of goals but also ability to influence and create.

Bit weird comparing Hourihane to Dawson & Perkins.

Hourihane would be better compared to Mellis.

It's a bit like comparing Paul Scholes' goals record to Darren Fletcher. One has a defensive role, the other has freedom to join in with attacks.

It's more of a look at the huge flaws in our team for the last 3 years. Dagnall, Dawson and Perkins regularly played together in the same 11 in positions where assists and goals are a of huge importance to the success of a team. Yet between them they barely contributed a thing. Looking at stats like this its obvious why we couldn't compete.

It's a big credit to Danny that he's brought in players who can win you matches on a regular basis.

Dagnall, Dawson and Perkins each had their moments in a red shirt. I'm grateful in particular for their performances under Flicker at the beginning of 2013. Much fairer to compare Winnall, Hourihane and Cole with Davies, Butterfield and Vaz Te. I'd suggest the present trio are just as exciting to watch, just as easy to love and quite similar in some respects. However, the earlier trio did it for a good few months in the division above. It was then expecting similar results and performances from inferior attacking/creative players such as Dawson, Dagnall and Perkins that did for us. We thought we'd remedied the problem by recruiting Mellis who for a time looked a quality replacement for Butterfield, as did COG a while down the line for Davies. But we never found anything close to Vaz Te.

I'm one of the happy clappers who wouldn't be that keen on an instant Championship return, but I would be disappointed if seeing the likes of Cole, Hourihane and Winnall lasted just one season. And should we remain L1, I suspect that'd be the case. We've to hope that our board hold firm in January, and that Danny can take this group up if indeed we really want to compare how capable these lads are in the second tier.

The good work by those three players when Flicker took over seems to have been forgotten by a lot of people. They each contributed a lot in that great run and deserve some recognition for that.
Dagnall and Dawson probably weren't up to the Championship, but they gave it their all and looked good for a while. Daggers was actually a favourite of mine
I think Perkins' legs may have gone by last leason, which combined with being played out of position on occasion made him look worse than he was. For two seasons he was a great player for us

A great player? No chance. Barely passable at best

Think back - what would Barnsley fans have told you about Perkins at the end of 2012-13? He was a bit of a fans favourite at one point IIRC

Not here. Appreciated his effort but that is all it was.

All i can say is i thank all departed players (Other than Frimpong and Shea) for their efforts but am delighted with our current team and our ongoing attempts to pass and move. Long live the Barnsley tikka tikka.

You can add Jim obrien in to that attacking midfielder with around 7 goals in about 160 games
