My point is... that they report this matter, fair enough...but the solution to stop student debt would be to raise taxation...something that they would (not) love
RE: So what proportion of people earning in the 40% tax bracket do you think I personally believe that on the job skills stand you in good sted for a career you can actually choose and enjoy, whilst also being very good at it. A majority of my mates went to Uni. Did degrees in subjects such as Media Studies or History - and they now have desk jobs where their studies are not used 1%. Uni of Life is the place to be - thats where my advice would go.
RE: Woah!!! "Under the controversial new system, which only survived a Labour backbench rebellion by five votes, graduates begin to pay back the fees once they are earning £15,000 a year rather than having to pay them up front." So they only start paying once they are earning rather than up front - seems ok. "Around 400,000 students from poorer families will benefit from grants and bursaries to help cover the costs, and any unpaid debt will be written off after 25 years." Ones from poorer families benefit and it can be written off after 25 years - again seems fine. "They said high street banks were predicting average debts of up to £20,000 by 2009 as students turned to them to top up the low-interest loans available from the state." This is where the real problem lies, not with the government, but the fact that the students are all too willing to put themselves further in debt and the banks are all too willing to help furnish that debt.
can I just say the average cost for Student accomadation in Sheffield for 10 months is about £2200 per year plus bills. The most a student gets a year is £4500. So they're expected to buy all there food, clothes, bills, travel expenses and stop in all year with the remaining £2,300 a year? Sheesh!
I think you miss my point sheff... I'm not saying that I think it's right but what I am saying is that the Daily Mail will jump onto anything to attack the government...even when the most obvious solution to the problem is to do something they would never agree with
Oh I know just stating the case for the defence matey. Daily Mail is only good for litter trays. Never trust a paper that backed Oswald Moseley.
