But assuming you have a ‘regular job’, like most of us, you can plan to work to 60, 65, 68, whatever… Football is different. As a player, you have a 10-12 year window to earn as much money as possible otherwise end up as a 32 year old trainee plasterer or a trolley collector. Even management is the same. If Val goes to West Brom and guides them to 18th place by Christmas, they will sack him. His next job may then be in the German third division on £800 per week, and if he doesn’t perform miracles there, that’s him pretty much finished. I despise the money in top level football. Imagine earning £200k per week to do something most other people consider a hobby. But at this level, you have to chase the money while you can. Besides, I am quite sure our successful recruitment strategy will be based on us selling ourselves to players and staff as the ideal stepping stone to bigger things.
Hey, I can't tell you what to do, I'm only giving my opinion as to why I think it's pointless to discuss various topics. Up to you if you want to though, I've said my piece!
I don’t know what part of my point you’re disagreeing with here. I was merely clarifying that the story is that our CEO and his Secretary are being pursued by Forest, rather than they have gone looking for a job. That for the right salary they’d clearly take up an offer, but that’s still a long way from any suggestion they went looking
If the club’s CEO is allowed to immediately join a competitor, having just been responsible to negotiating player contracts and working with the head coach in the hope of making sure he wants to stay, then that is a massive fail from the club.
Disagreeing? I thought I was more reinforcing your point. Health permitting (and other factors outside of our control) us regular workers have a guaranteed income of ‘enough’ to see us through to retirement. I don’t earn mega money but I pay my bills, feed my kids, get to the football, out for a pint, even a holiday. I earn ‘enough’. Most of us take on 25 year mortgages because our income is pretty secure over that period of time. People in the football industry can’t plan for 25 years and beyond so they chase the money. Your point was that you could too, but choose not to. So could I, but don’t. If that comes across as disagreeing with you, when it is quite the opposite, then please accept a virtual cuddle and peck on the cheek as my way of apology.
As a consequence of the work they've done both Murphy and Val have made Barnsley FC a very attractive proposition for any new CEO and manager, football careers in whatever field of operation is fleeting, we move on.
Agree, I know we move on etc, but if we lose our CEO and Head Coach at this point, when we’re busy lining up players comings and going’s it will be a big blow. I’ve sort of accepted Mowatt’s not signing and I don’t know much about the Secretary. The Spreadsheet may be ours but the knowledge of player targets and what we’re planning is still in the heads of Dane and Val.
I'd say Barnsley FC have had ample time to rubbish the Dane and VI rumours... Ether directly or by someone like Andy Giddings, which say to me that they are true. It this case no news is deff not good news.
To be fair if the club took time to answer/rubbish every rumour, especially close season, they’d have little time for owt else
I didn't think it was her, but wasn't sure thought she'd have gone with him.. You never know, she may get his job then. His replacement might already be here.
I'd say it's par for the course in football - where jobs are the most closed shop revolving door of any industry I can think of. All the talk of how difficult it is for people of colour to get a job in management, mostly miss the elephant in the room - take a look at any 'new manager' discussion online, and you'll find the same list of candidates recycled. Most football managers have a working knowledge of the inside of half a dozen rival clubs at least.
Well they were rubbishing transfer rumours only the other week thru Doug O'Kane. So I'd say rumours involving our CEO and most deff Head coach are just as, if not not more important news
