To be fair. Players at Dortmund volunteered pay cuts to try and help ease the pressure on non playing staff. Says nowt about a deferral.
Non-playing staff wages could probably be funded by a pay cut of less than 10% for the players for 3-6 months. Disgraceful that players continue to receive full pay, while lower paid staff take cuts at clubs.
I’m guessing the reason the players haven’t/can’t be furloughed is due to them needing to keep up their training schedule? Furloughed employees are not allowed to work in any capacity. Seeing as training is their work the majority of the time, that would likely cause issues. It’s still wrong that others have been furloughed before asking players to take a pay cut (but the PFA have caused issues there, telling players to not accept any terms until the PFA have assessed the financial state of individual clubs)
Good article that. I'd like to see some action from the PFA to come up with a solution that has some fairness to it. I'm not expecting it though...
Disgusting, the players could cover all those wages without even noticing a difference to their bank balance and not burden the tax payer. The players need to step up.
